Pray for this Freeper...to get some common sense

Prayers Requested

Posted on 03/06/2006 2:06:56 PM PST by PeteePie

I need prayer for my family. My wife needs an emergency root canal. I lost my job last year and work 2 jobs now but have no benefits. We have tremendous faith but we're up against the wall on how to fund this because of the suddeness of the situation. I seem to be in that income area where I make too much for assistance but not enough in real life for contingenies like this. We lost a lot of stuff the past year but are closer than ever as a family. Not a sensational story but I know there are some powerfully faithful Freepers out there. I know God is going to show up in this but your prayers and encouragement can't hurt.

I'd say we reap what we sow, but hey, what the hell do I know about farming?

1. Just because he's a Christian who believes in prayer
doesn't mean he is lacking in "common sense." I believe strongly in the power of prayer.

8. He doesn't lack common sense because he prays....
He lacks common sense because he's a freeper. More specifically, he's a freeper put into a situation that he voted. This freeper may be the exception, but the bulk of them know that people are thrust into this situation every day and they just don't give a damn.

19. Exactly how I read it
Too many people are working multiple jobs, and are still unable to meet basic needs - and like this person's situation, employers aren't giving adequate health care coverage. Other freepers in the thread are bragging about going to Mexico to get dental work done, so as not to pay the US system prices. This should be a clue that:

1. Minimum wage needs to be raised, because honest hard working people can't support themselves with the rates being what they are.

2. Either unions need to be supported so that workers can get adequate health benefits, or the government needs to provide universal health care options so people aren't relying on employers to provide it for them.

3. The great and wonderful US health care system has an undeniable flaw if those who support it loudest (republicans: "It's the best health care in the world") are voting to keep it how it is, while going outside the country because it isn't financially accessible here.

4. One of the big flaws in our system is that the poor can get some level of health care, the rich can get great health care, but there is a huge (and increasing gap) of people that fall between those two levels who don't have much of anything.

5. The new bankruptcy bill fails to take into account that the majority of people declaring bankruptcy are people exactly in this poster's position - those who worked, maybe got laid off, didn't have an infinite supply of savings, and now are face to face with a crisis that could put them over the edge.

On the lack of common sense ... if a freeper is actively working (via voting or propoganda) to prevent universal health care, is actively fighting to reduce labor rights, actively fights against raising the minimum wage, and works to frame the issue of poverty as one of "lazy people who aren't willing to work because they LIKE to live in poverty" than it defies common sense to be praying for health coverage, better benefits on the job, and bemoaning the fact that they can't make ends meet.

Or, to put it more succinctly, if I pray to lose weight, I'm demonstrating my faith. If, however, I pray that I will lose weight - as I'm stuffing my face with custard donuts and pork rinds, the only thing I'm demonstrating is that I'm a fool.

35. "But at least the queers can't get married," was probably part
of their rationale for supporting a president that wouldn't ever do likewise. Bush would tell him about other minimum wage jobs he could get and how wonderful it is to be able to work as hard as you want to (not) get ahead.

Then Bush would tell him about taking community college classes for retraining. Problem is, this guy doesn't qualify for any financial aid and the cost of college classes is going out of sight, thanks to the bozos in the WH.

I feel sorry for his wife's suffering.

17. it wasn't my aim to rag on this person for praying
but to rag on a Bush supporter who can now only be helped by Democratically backed programs, such as universal health care. Sorry if I wasn't clearer.

3. Freepers like this revel in their misery
They would rather eat dirt and watch their children dress in rags than attempt to better their situation. They want to suffer as their Savior suffered - but then Shrub hasn't suffered a day in his life, has he ??

I'm sorry this person is up against hard times but as you say, we reap what we sow.......

26. Sounds like he was trying to get on 'assistance' too - thought they
were supporting Shrub cause they didn't believe in that sort of thing. I'm sorry that the guy is going through this, but now's the chance for him to practice his 'personal responsibility' of voting for things that go against his interests.

38. I'm sick of having to support freeloading whining people
I deserve a second home off my tax cuts...who cares if his wife's teeth hurt. Not my problem.

:sarcasm:

Not so fun when one's on the receiving end of such cruel apathy, I'd wager. Doubt the lesson will sink in, though.

9. "Jeez - that damn Canada with its socialist medicine
is sure looking good right now, ain't it, Ethel?? Want another ice pack for that tooth, honey??? Maybe if you listen to that great American, Sean Hannity, talk about how the unions are destroying America, and how those Europeans and Canadians are all socialists for taking care of their citizens' health insurance you'll feel better."

I am truly not writing this to be mean here, I feel badly for this man, but the disconnect is astounding. How he cannot see what the republicans have done for the country, job losses in great number to other countries, loss of health insurance for many, but hey - we don't want to stinkin' socialist health/dental insurance in 'merica, right???" I am astounded by the ignorance and the blindness.

I feel badly, but I am angered as well.

10. Hmmm....I am not a vindictive person.....
Here's my help to the Freeper....(I am in a bad mood today)

God helped our founding fathers to create an amazing nation.....God helped some enterprising politicians to create safety nets for Americans that fell on hard times...Social Security etc.

And over the last two hundered years the country improved and the goverment was able to take care of it's weakest citizens....

You (Freeper) have voted this * cabal in twice....
-While they outsourced your good paying jobs (you cheered them on)
-While stripping the funds from states to provide for those that have no health insurance (You cheered them on because only black people depend on the state for benefits) :sarcasm:
-You were so worried about your material wealth and goods that you saved no money for emergencies.... you spent and spent....

Now you find yourself working two crappy jobs, you have a wife that needs dental care and you know that God is going to come and fix everything for you...

Well, like Monkey boy says pull yourself up by your boot straps, you don't need handouts, hey go to your church and have them help you out of your financial problems....:banghead:

11. Please
A prayer for his family for a ROOT CANAL???? I need one too but I'm not on this website begging for a handout (and I'll get it done soon, more chicken than anything).

Sorry, but this guy reminds me of the losers at Church when I was young - about once a month they'd roll down the front of the church and cry and say how they couldn't pay their rent or had no groceries, or whatever - and people gave them money. No different then the beggers on the street corner.

My ONLY problem with this is - hey dumass - you got what you voted for - tough shit. A Root Canal? How many people need FOOD because they are starving or REAL SHIT.

12. there are dental programs at most universities where you are
able to go for a nominal fee and have work done. It might be worth a couple of calls. It sounds like you would qualify. The pain of a dying tooth is horrific. I know....

Everything is supervised closely. maybe this will help.

Good luck..hope she has anitbiotics and pain killers.

14. I'm having a hard time understanding how politics can make
people so MEAN. I have lots of friends and family whom I love dearly, from all political walks of life. I can disagree with them, have passionate discussions with them, consider them ill-informed, even dumb about a lot of stuff, but I can't HATE them and despise them... Maybe I'm just naive? I don't know. As a Christian I just can't hate the guy and call him a jerk because he's on a freeper board.

32. Compassion is limited for freepers who continually
state the Democrats should be arrested, hey, we should be in camps, we are giving comfort to the enemy by opposing Bush's war. This is why the Democrats get their butts handed to them time and again - you are all too nice.

I have compassion for this man's wife, but he has lost his job and has no health insurance and he posts on a freeper board??? What the hell? Can't he see the wealthy, and the connected Republicans laughing at him and his wife all the way to the bank?? He is just ignorant and, since he is a freeper, more than likely very mean about us.

39. I just have a hard time not feeling bad for him.
I'm sorry.

And being compassionate is NOT why we lose elections. And frankly I'm sick and tired of hearing this type of rhetoric from fellow Democrats all the time. Our political base is BASED on compassion. It's based on heart and sympathy. And I, for one, will not change the way I feel about humanity simply to win over those who do not.

I do not disagree with this man's choices in politics. And I question his intelligence for not seeing where his choices have left him and not realizing what he could do about it. But I will not hate him for it. He is a victim of a combingation of a greedy, malignant cancer of an administration and his own ignorance. It's sad.

Remember what they did with Andy Stephenson - he was dying for cripes sake - and they slandered him. But, my hat's off to you still compassionate folk. I guess they really are too stupid to know better.

24. Yeah maybe it's just a root canal
but even something like that can be overwhelming. I believe God cares about even the smallest things in our lives, if they are things that are troubling us.

The way God sees it is the way I feel for my own children--if their best friend just hurt their feelings on the playground over something silly, my heart breaks for them and the pain they're going through--even if it is something silly.

those in need from my perspective.

On DU we reach out to fellow DU'ers in need like that all the time. Why should we judge someone on FR for reaching out to their fellow Freepers? Regardless of him being a freeper and out of touch with reality in politics, that doesn't mean I wish hell for him and his family. I hope it works out ok for them, as I would for anybody.

21. the FR poster is fair game in my book
because Bush has done nothing to help out the 40 million uninsured Americans out there. He has backed the pharmaceutical and health insurance industries at every turn. That was the point of my post.

I don't wish these people harm, maybe I was too blunt in my post. I wish everyone at FR would come around and vote Bushco out of office. Having Bush in office for the past 8 years is really punishment enough for all Americans - we've all suffered enough.

28. Sometimes it is hard to see the truth when you are in the situation.
Maybe someone should send this guy an email (do they have email addys at FR like they do here?) and NICELY let him know some universities/colleges do this sort of work and perhaps NICELY let him know that people not being able to get help when they need it is something we are all interested in completely doing away with.

I would do this but I do not even go over there. I do not think there is a need to rub anything in. You gather more bees with honey than with vinegar. I think we need to stand for everyone, not just those who have shared our beliefs all along. If we try and help this guy maybe he will see past all the hype about evil liberals and maybe he will even clear the air for others to see how we only want what is best for everyone.

We are human and we can do more together than when we are separate. If we all pull together then we can reverse all the damage that is done. If we act with a defeatist attitude and state that the other side is brainwashed then we have already defeated ourselves and can not help anybody.
