Miami judge refuses to delay sentencing for lobbyist Abramoff

MIAMI -- A federal judge on Monday refused to delay sentencing 90 days for disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff despite statements from government lawyers that sending Abramoff to prison could jeopardize his cooperation in ongoing criminal probes.

U.S. District Judge Paul Huck set sentencing for Abramoff and co-defendant Adam Kidan for March 29 but said he would probably not require an immediate surrender, allowing the men to remain free and available to assist investigators.

Abbe Lowell, Abramoff's Washington D.C.-based defense lawyer, warned Huck that he might be obligated at a sentencing hearing to reveal details of the government's pending investigations into the Capitol Hill lawmakers who did business with Abramoff.

"We will name names. We will provide the public with evidence of what is going on out there," Lowell said. "It seems to me that is not in the interest of law enforcement."

1. Why doesn't Jack name names now? Pre-emptive strike against a long
sentence?

2. More greymail crap. Nice to hear there's stuff about more Congressmen
on the take that hasn't been made public yet. Go ahead, name names.

BTW: Greymail hasn't worked very well so far for Scooter's lawyer, but he's up against the best.

5. I'll Believe It When I DON'T Hear It
He's just blowing off steam and spewing hot air. I still doubt he's going to implicate anybody. He's too much of a die-hard repub, and he'll NEVER EVER give up one of his own.

Even though King george is acting like they don't know each other, there is no way Jack would betray the King, or any of his henchmen. This is just him issuing meaningless threats.

Remember....these guys ALWAYS stick together. I've yet to see a situation where they haven't. I doubt any names he plans to "name" are of significance.....unless of course he plans to smear a democrat or two.

6. Isn't providing the public with evidence of what is going on
what true law enforcement is all about?

7. Maybe that is a threat to **, or OTHER Florida pols
Maybe they want to make sure someone steps in and stops Abramoff from going to the klink right away. It's not like ** doesn't have friends in the neighborhood.
