A mockingbird is working on her nest
Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 04:00 PM by BOSSHOG
in our Holly Tree in South Mississippi. The Azaleas are about to burst with blooms. I've taken inventory of my shorts to figure out if any need to be replaced. Spring has arrived.

3. Each year
we have a beautiful nest in the tree which can be viewed from our garage without disturbing mom or her babies. She does a helluva job. I left the nest in the tree last year upon the advice of a person smarter than me, but Katrina whisked it away. It was certainly a wonderful sight to see a bird back. It also is quite amusing when the Mockingbirds eat the Holly berries, get drunk and sing all day long.

10. Sing at night too
Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 04:10 PM by StClone
Mockers have got to be one of the zaniest of birds that the average person can meet up with. Young male Mockingbirds in search of a girl friend may sing in the night. They attack cats with zeal (sometimes tragically) and fly through the yard like they're rowing an old row boat while flashing their white wing patches.

Lucky survivor and a blessing for you. I love the little wackos.

13. "Little wackos"
Perfect description. We are lucky they hang around our home. We have a holly tree on the east and west end of the front or our house. They are a joy to hear.

4. So sorry!
As my Navy recruiter told me after checking my GCT/ARI scores for entry into the military, "you'll never be a diesel mechanic." I'm lucky to put text on the computer.

5. I love Mockingbirds!
Lucky you. It is a little early for shorts here but it won't be long, the spring birds are singing.

I have a mockingbird at my farm that calls in my horses, it has my whistle and my call down perfect. It does tend to confuse things sometimes but it is pretty funny. They are such cool birds. Lucky you.

7. I miss mockingbirds.
One of the few things that I miss since moving to Washington from California. Mockingbirds and Eucalyptus trees.

8. One day I sat outside listening to one mockingbird for an hour or so.
I swear it never sang the same tune!

There is a nest in my tree from last year, but so far no takers.

Spring has been here in Texas all winter. The plants are truly confused, problem being that the recent cold snap messed up the new buds.

9. What a listen for sore ears, a read for such sad eyes.
77 here in ne ok. We gonna need a lot of good weather because we have some serious business to deal with, our country that we so gave so much for needs us now more than ever. We can't let it down, our children need us to step up to the plate, to take on the role what parents so do. Peace to a better world.

11. This is a great time of the year....
A time to renew and a time to grow... thanks for the post I only hope the tread nazi's don't bounce this one to the lounge as well since personally I think there is much to be said for these kinds of observations as they relate to current events.

PS.. I've got a couple of nest happening as well not to mention the butterflies digging on the Mountain Laurel.

18. "Officially" it is 14 days, yet the Northeast is notorious...
for late bursts of snow.

This morning during my cup of coffee and trip to gather the newspaper I 'felt' it. Even noticed the Canada Geese migrating back this morning on our commute. So close I can feel it outdoors.

It's been a long winter!

19. I saw a grasshopper this morning
Fully grown - not a young 'un.

Taking the plants out this week - I may even actually plant my dwarf ficus (lying bastids, it's scraping the ceiling) and it actually ate a guest last week.
