Which contradiction in the RW do you find the most absurd?
Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 02:41 PM by ck4829
Being "pro-life" but not Pro-Social Programs?

Being Anti-Welfare but not worrying about No-Bid Contracts and Trickle Down Economics?

Supporting Wiretaps and the Patriot Act but not worrying that Bush is probably the most secretive President in American History?

Or do you have something else in mind?

1. All of those, along with...
the claim that they, somehow, own Christianity and yet they can tell people to F-themselves and use the middle finger regularly all the while screwing the middle and lower classes - and don't forget having people like Jeff Gannon staying over in the White House (and the other hundreds of reasons why they don't "own Christianity").

4. That's a tough question, there are so many to choose from. . .
Being anti-abortion, but doing business with corporations in the Marianas Islands which force their employees (who double as forced sex workers) to get abortions if they become pregnant.

Or there's the "communism is bad" meme, i.e. it's bad if it's in Cuba under Castro, but it's fine and dandy if we can exploit the people for cheap labor like in China.

Or there's the whole being in favor of democratically elected governments, unless they're democratically elected governments that disagree with us like Venezuela.

The list goes on and on.

15. I find it so ironic that when anti-choice parents find out their teens
are pregnant a very large number of them seek abortions-even to the extent of disguising themselves from their fellow protesters.

They demand government restrictions on rights of privacy and consenual cohabitation, yet project sexuality so much that they appear to be personally obsessed with the subject, and then constantly end up being the ones who are arrested for the most dysfunctional, bizarre practices.

19. At least since the days of Iran-Contra & Ollie North
I have hated the RW hypocrisy of claiming that they are for the rule of law, insisting on "zero tolerance" & mandatory sentencing, and otherwise demanding that EVERYONE ELSE practice strict obedience to a rigid legal/moral code -- while simultaneously worshiping criminals like North and Liddy, and claiming the right (for themselves only, of course) to violate any law that THEY find objectionable or just personally think is "wrong." About ten years ago someone came into the place where I worked and was "joking" with one of my coworkers about the car in the lot with the Bill Clinton bumper sticker. He couldn't believe that anyone could support such an evil, corrupt man. Turns out he was referring to my Bill Clinton bumper sticker. I politely stated that, if others had no qualms about idolizing Oliver North, I had no qualms about supporting Bill Clinton. I have rarely been so successful at silencing a right-winger as I was with that simple statement.

26. Which one?
Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 03:50 PM by izzybeans
My favorite absurdity is any contradiction between real events and the shit they make up. Welfare Queens, liberal bias in the colleges, media, and under their beds at night, homosexual agendas, reverse discrimination, trickle-down economics, free markets, flying spaghetti monsters, abortion on demand, privatized efficiency, competitive utopias etc. Take your pick.

All of them are mystifications designed to create that slight brush of the shoulder that allows republicans to pick their pockets, even while forcing them to apologize for bumping into the theif. "Excuse me...Hey come back here you stole my wallet?" it's a seamless web of lies that their loyal subjects believe in unquestioningly.

On edit: if you add the fact that while picking the pockets of their loyal subjects the republicans whisper lovingly in their ears "watch out for tax and spend democrats who want to take your guns away" you've seen how Machiavelli steals their freedom away and makes them love it. <then turns quickly and run for the door, straight to a lobbying firm/think-tank>

30. On guns...
Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 06:05 PM by PurpleChez
another contradiction I hate is their dismissal of concerns for voting rights and civil rights as being the realm of tin foil-hatted conspiracy nuts, yet all the while they are absolutely beyond freakazoid about their guns. I work with a lot of RW'ers, and they're basically good guys, but don't get 'em talking about their guns. I was a psych major but definitely not a Freudian -- I was never one of those who tried to make a phallic symbol out of everything that is longer or taller than it is wide. But there is undeniably some deep-seated psychological issue going on with these freaks and firearms.

33. Republicans on the ticket, Neoconservatives get elected
There's a distinct difference between GOP conservatives and neoconservatives that no one bothered to explain to this country before Bush** and his neocon buddies took control. Traditional conservatives are awakening to the false advertising. WILL THEY DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT is the question.
