Everyone's worked up about Bush calling Pakistan "Arab" when the problem
...when the problem was really with the rest of his statement. Bush said Pakistan was "a force for freedom and moderation in the Arab world." But the truly outrageous part wasn't calling Pakistan by the wrong ethnicity. It's referring to Pakistan as a force for freedom. Pakistan is a fairly repressive country. Certainly they're more moderate than most oftheir neighbors, but this is just one more example of a presient who'se chronically loose with the truth. Like when he attacked Iran for not being a free country and needing the blessings of democracy.

Iran has an elected president and national legislature. That sure sounds like a democracy to me. I don't happen to like their policies in many cases... But you don't get to call people just any old name you want just because you don't like them. Jeeze, what a maroon.

2. I wish someone would ask B*sh
how free and moderate it was for Pakistan to lock up even moderates like Imran Khan as a "pre-emptive strike" against any possible expression of opposition while B*sh was in the country.

5. Nothing new. They also called the Contras "freedom fighters".
Not to mention numerous other similar outfits that we backed around the world, not excluding the same swell folks that set up the Taliban and Al-Queda.

7. Hell, that putz thinks Iranians, Kurds and Afghans are Arabs, too!!
If they pray on the floor, and wear textiles on their heads, they are all Arabs to him.

He is a clueless, obtuse IDIOT. That is the only explanation that holds up. You can misspeak once, but when you do it every day, in every way, you are a friken DUNCE. And that is what he is.

9. Come on!
People here bitch 24/7 about this administration and how they need to engage the international community more. Well, Bush is TRYING to build a relationship between Pakistan and America--something WE say we want--and there's enough difficulty there. You think he'd get further with them if he said they were a 'fairly repressive country' or that they were not a 'force for freedom'? That's NOT how you make friends or build allies--and it's not fair to say he's 'loose with the truth' because he puts the best slant on things, or engages in wishful thinking.

We can criticize Bush for many things, but this shouldn't be one of them.:yoiks:
