A vision of a Blue-Green Alliance in the US
Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 11:59 AM by ck4829
A coalition between the Progressive Wing of the Democratic Party and the Green Party would be perfect.

Even though I am registered Democrat, I can't help but think that the US would be a great place if Greens won, and they CAN, some people just ignore 3rd Parties.

Just look at their Values (according to Wikipedia).

1. Community-based economics, e.g. LETS, local purchasing, co-housing, Community-supported agriculture
2. Decentralisation, e.g. via Bioregional democracy, sustainable agriculture, regional transmission grids
3. Ecological Wisdom, e.g. ending human-caused extinction, promoting ecological health
4. Feminism, e.g. health security especially for mothers and children, and thus a focus on environmental health, gender equity in government; also referred to as Postpatriarchal Values, e.g. de-emphasizing competition and encouraging cooperation
5. Grassroots democracy, e.g. via electoral reform to improve deliberative democracy
6. Non-violence, e.g. via de-escalation, peace processes
7. Personal and global responsibility, e.g. moral purchasing, voluntary simplicity
8. Respect for diversity, e.g. via fair trade, bioregional democracy
9. Social justice, e.g. harm reduction rather than zero tolerance, a Living wage
10. Future Focus/Sustainability, e.g. measuring well-being effect over seven generations, leading to what is called seven-generation sustainability, Renewable energy and Conservation, New urbanism, Zero waste

I know of very few Liberals and Progressives who disagree with Greens based on these issues.

So, what is the problem?

We need to form a Treaty between the Democrats and the Greens, get some sort of alliance going.

What we'll (Democrats) do for the Greens:
Endorse Candidates at the Local and the State level
Direct the media to look at Greens

What the Greens can do for the Democrats:
Endorse Candidates at the Federal Level

Ralph Nader got 2,882,897 votes in 2000, just imagine if he had said "Vote for Al" instead.

2. Ah yes.
The only thing keeping Democrats from winning is their lack of an alliance with that electoral juggernaut, the Green Party.

level.

Co-endorsement, for one. Let the Greens & the Dems nominate the same person for Preisdent, say. Unfortunately, this thype of ballot is illegal most places. It was killed off by both major parties because they saw it as a threat to their co-hegtemony. NY & maybe a few other places allow it.

Instant runoff ballots are another possibility.

My heart is green, my brain is blue. I'd love to have a system that permits both organs to have their say.

4. Locking.
If Greens would like to join the coalition currently known as the Democratic Party, they are more than welcome to do so.
