Attention Viet Nam Vets (or not)
Edited on Sun Mar-05-06 09:30 PM by cat_girl25
I just watched this movie with my family titled "Missing in America". Starring Danny Glover, David Straithorn, Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman. This was a great movie and you should check it out when you get a chance. I haven't rented DVDs in a while. I came across it by accident, read the plot and thought it would be interesting. Last night I rented three..."Flight Plan", "The Hunting of the President" and "Missing in America". This movie is about several vets living out in the wild in the Northwest. You can read more about it here from the internet movie database. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0384699/

I know there have been a lot of movies about the Viet Nam war but this movie really tells the story of how a lot of the vets lived after the war. I'd give this movie a 10.

1. Thanks cat_girl25
I'll tell my sister (momophile here on DU) and we'll check it out... being the daughters of a vet who lived after the war.

2. I couldn't finish it....forgotten, neglected, abandonded vets
break my heart. I started watching it, and just had to quit. I generally HATE movies about the Vietnam war, two exceptions being "Apocalypse Now," which is basically a fairy tale, and "Full Metal Jacket," which was all too accurate. I have been very fortunate as a Vietnam veteran, but all too many of my brethren are not, and I am so very sorry about it.

8. Well if you ever get the strength, you should finish it.
I really liked this movie. I will add this one to my collection. It doesn't show much of the war except a few flashbacks but I particularly liked the scenes with the little girl, Glover and Red (Ron Perlman).

3. Thanks for the heads up
Gonna go out and rent it tomorrow. Two dear friends are Viet Nam vets and may be interested in seeing this movie. So they will.

5. Distant Thunder -bushvets in the NW woods, John Lithgow
I met a guy that the character was taken from. He turned his life around and got into the Native American spirituality and life. These men tried to live their lives, but didn't want to deal with society. The Port Angeles, WA counseling center consulted too. It lets you know what these men suffered, and what will come home from Iraq with our misused heroes.

It's an older movie, but pretty well done.
