Philippines files sedition charges against publisher, two columnists

MANILA -The Philippine government has filed charges of incitement to sedition against a newspaper publisher and two of her columnists for their attacks on President Gloria Arroyo, the publisher said on Saturday.

The charges were filed against Ninez Cacho-Olivares, publisher of the Daily Tribune newspaper, and columnists Ike Seneres and Herman Tiu-Laurel, the newspaper reported on its front page.

Justice Department officials confirmed that charges of incitement to sedition had been filed against officials of the Tribune but would not give details.

Cacho-Olivares said in her newspaper that Arroyo was merely ”sore” at her for her criticism of the government.

1. Marcos Cronies at it again
There is an organized effort to oust Gloria Arroyo, but honestly some of the players have me seriously confused.

Take Cory Aquino for example, former president who was at times attacked by the Marco Cronies much like Gloria (GMA) is now. I read an article recently where Cory was interview by a western journalist. Cory Aquino was defending Imelda Marcos in the article.

I friend of mine currently living in Tarlac City Philippines opposes Gloria Arroyo for the Hacienda Luista incident where 14 striking workers were shot by the military. Only problem is it is Cory Aquino’s family who owns Hacienda Luista, and Cory Aquino still has military leaders loyal to her.

Right now I am waiting to see how the evidence plays out. Supposedly the PNP seized a flash drive during a raid in Manila that contained emails between these groups and the local communist rebels (CPP/NPA) and yes the rebels are an armed insurrection or insurgents if you well.

The real problem is 2 fold. 1 the people got rid of Marcos but not the 100s or 1000s of wealthy powerful cronies he put in place. 2 none of the power struggle actually involves the betterment of the common people. It basically ammounts to several powerful families caught in a power struggle over control of the Philippines.

Doesn't matter which side wins the common citizen gets screwed again
