Video link to prominent Baptist minister arrested on lewd charge
http://newsok.com/video/1724872/

Notice that he(Lonnie Latham, senior pastor at South Tulsa Baptist Church)looks nothing like the official photo that a fellow DUer posted earlier. Also notice that it would appear that the Southern Baptist Convention (of which he is an Executive Committee member)is BACKING the charge. Note that the good reverend also lied about his name and occupation.

If you're just joining us on this, the reason this is significant:

1) This guy is a high-ranking member of the Southern Baptist Convention (the largest Protestant body in the US)-- he is on the Executive Committee.

2) He has also spoken out against same-sex marriage and in support of a Southern Baptist Convention
directive urging its 42,000 churches to befriend gays and lesbians and try to convince them that
they can become heterosexual "if they accept Jesus Christ as their savior and reject their 'sinful,
destructive lifestyle." (as a DUer cited earlier, this would suggest that the good reverend is yet to make such a commitment to his savior.)

I am not into muckraking for the sake of it.

But as an openly gay man I believe people like this should be exposed for the frauds they are. Because they are not just religious frauds. They are not just living double lives and lying to their families (that is their business.) But people like "Rev." Latham go out of their way to harm and to marginalize gays and lesbians.

By the way, I was ordained a Southern Baptist minister in 1973, realized I was gay in 1977, and LEFT that whole scene rather than live a fraudulent life.

1. Amen Imagine
These people are the worst kind of scum. Frauds like this should be exposed - outed if need be. I have NO sympathy for those who try to force second-class citizen status on our community while living this fraudulent double life. Please spare me the flames about the families and children. these people deserve everything they get

4. Amen Bigscott
The more "Roy Cohns" exposed (oops, I would prefer "outed" to "exposed") the better.

2. I'm generally opposed to outing
but when a virulently anti gay minister is exposed, I'm all for it. Those creeps and the creeps who abuse women and children all need to be identified.

I'm sorry you had to leave your ministry and your church. I have a strong suspicion the real loss was theirs.

7. Except that Latham wasn't outed, he was arrested
Although I, too, think that if some loudmouth is hiding behind a couple of dubious scriptural passages to reinforce popular prejudices, he deserves everything that's coming to him when it turns out he practices the very thing he so profitably despises.

How might Brother Latham's call to ministry been different if he had chosen to be honest to himself and honest to God about his nature, rather than toddling off down the wide, easy path so his itching ears could be tickled by the praise of others?

3. Latham says he was involved in a "prayer ministry" in that area (where
the arrest took place). Maybe he prays on his knees and he just wanted to prayer with the police officer?:sarcasm:
