who do you think they're spying on NOW?
let's just suppose that the banana republicans' whole spying thing was completely above board and that they only ever wanted to spy on actual terrorists or actual terrorism suspects and so on. nothing nefarious in their intentions.

but now that they have the spying program and capabilities in place and have claimed that right; now that they're in serious danger of losing control of either or both houses of congress; now that people are talking about impeachment if democrats regain congress; now that people are talking about cheney stepping down after the elections; now that the banana republicans are openly self-destructing; ...

... NOW THAT THEY ARE DESPERATE ...

can we honestly say that they would continue to use the spying program only as advertised and would not dream of spying on some democratic campaigns in key states or districts???

1. I like to keep them on their toes.
I try to use all the keywords an Al Qaeda hunter would be looking for when I talk to people I know who either live in or used to live in the Middle East. The neocons have to earn their pay, IMO.

Osama always gets mention. Bush, Cheney and the word "Bomb" or the phrase "blown up" or a synonym is always included. I bring up that terrorist guy who lived in the area and always mention aid to Israel and the latest in various Muslim countries as part of my general conversation.

Heck, if we all did it, they'd give this thing up due to overwhelming volume of leads to follow.

Who do you think they're spying on NOW? ;)

I'd like to give a shout out to the NSA and what's his name over at the Pentagon...

2. No so much spying on campaigns as digging up "dirt" on...
the candidates. The smear has been their modus operandi for the past 25 or so years, after all. I would not doubt that just about every single potential non-republican candidate that has the potential to win is being spied on with the resulting "intelligence" being handed over to Rove/Cheney. It would not surprise me in the least.

3. not a chance!
can we honestly say that they would continue to use the spying program only as advertised and would not dream of spying on some democratic campaigns in key states or districts???

Remember when the Republicans did the redistricting thing in Texas? And remember the Democrats left the state for awhile so that they wouldn't be forced to hand over their state to yet more Republican control? When the Democrats left, the Republicans used Homeland Security to try to find out where they went!

And if they would do that, I have no doubt that they will spy on anyone, anywhere and for any reason!
