National Guard Introduces New Plan To Recruit Soldiers
Soldier Who Brings In Qualified Recruit Eligible For $1,000 Bonus

POSTED: 6:16 am EST March 3, 2006
UPDATED: 8:49 am EST March 3, 2006

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Whether it's training for missions in Iraq or leaving for the Gulf Coast to provide hurricane relief, the North Carolina National Guard is all about helping others. It now offers a new program with a monetary incentive to help boost its numbers.

As part of the Guard Recruiter Assistant Program, if a soldier brings in a potential recruit who is qualified and enlists, then the soldier gets a $1,000 check. Another $1,000 payment comes when the recruit successfully completes basic training.

Guard officials say the incentives can help reduce the cost of recruiting new soldiers and give the veterans another reason to stay.

One of the first people to take advantage of the program, Pvt. Charles Duggan, will be awarded the $1,000 bonus at the Claude T. Bowers Military Center on Reedy Creek Road in Raleigh Friday.

3. What do they get when the new recruit is blown away by an IED?

Aside from a memory that will haunt them the rest of their life.

4. Wow...they are getting desperate...
they are waving the carrot to the soldiers who are all ready not making any money......to bring in a friend....

Give the veterans a reason to stay and get sent back to Iraq....they have no conscious do they?

5. The BF program gets CASH?
BF stands for Buddy F_ _ _ er

Used to be if you got one of your friends to sign up after you had you got a whole rank. Instead of beginning as an E-1 you enter as an E-2, a difference of about $25 in the early 90's.

7. Draft? Since the federal government doesn't have the guts
to use it.
That would be the end of that war and neo-con imperialism, and they know it.

14. 35 and under and you're good to go.
I understand they take them as old as 39 now.

In other words: Anyone who supports the Iraq War and does not enlist, is a gutless yellow coward.

That's right Freepers: I'm calling you a cowards.

13. This is nothing new
When I enlisted in the 80s, you could get advanced rank (E2 instead of E1) for getting a friend to enlist. It was a couple hundred bucks a month at the time.
