Dick Cheney made ONE big mistake.
This is the best response I've yet to read regarding Dead-eye Dick's little "peppering" incident. It goes right to the heart of the judgement exhibited by old Darth. The author is a syndicated outdoor writer.

2. nice essay
nicely done and i agree 100 percent

i also don't believe the beer stopped with just one, my experience of heavy drinkers and alcoholics is that once you start drinking that early in the day, you can't stop

the man takes a drink, the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes the man

i realize cheney feels terrible -- but he should, guilt is our message from our conscience to knock it off

6. Agreed, and taking responsibility for one's actions is an adult response
--one that was sorely lacking from Cheney for several days. The hunters I know have been livid over the way the Cheney spin team tried to deflect blame to Whittington.

5. His biggest mistake was being born! But guns and alcohol don't mix.

7. i think he was shot deliberately. why? because wittington apologized
NO ONE would EVER under ANY circumstances i can think of apologize for getting shot by accident.

however, if you were shot ON PURPOSE, you might very well apologize for many reasons.
first, it proved a willingness to kill, to you would be inclined to appease.
second, if it was done ON PURPOSE, then it was IN RESPONSE TO SOMETHING WITTINGTON DID, and THAT he would feel he needed to apologize for.

for instance, wittington might have asked for too much, asked cheney to resign, threatened cheney, whatever, and cheney shot him.
so wittington apologized for doing whatever he did that prompted cheney to shoot him.

true, alcohol might have made cheney less inhibited about shooting someone than he otherwise might have been, so i can't say that it was premeditated. in fact i doubt it was. but that's not the point.

my point is that i think the apology makes the ON PURPOSE scenario far more likely than even duers are willing to acknowledge.

8. Cheney wanted to plant a knife on Whittington and claim self-defense...
...but cooler heads prevailed that day.

11. "And you’d better believe ...
that Harry Whittington was one real hurt old dog."

Honest people of all political stripes can see right through them now, easily. It's only the determinedly dishonest who are propping them up.
