In regards to the teacher that was suspended.
I heard on the news here in Denver this morning that the teacher was NOT just teaching Geography. He was teaching a class called POLITICAL Geography. And not only does the class require permission from parents because of its sometimes controversial subjects...it requires A SIGNED RELEASE FROM THE STUDENTS PARENTS.

Well that puts it in a whole new light...doesn't it.

BTW...
I graduated from Overland in '90.

GO TRAILBLAZERS!!!

1. I wondered when the first article I read said he taught
Social Studies. Then it changed to Geography. Selective reporting, I guess. :eyes:

2. If that is fact, link please, then we should bombard the media with it.
Especially Scarborough Country as they really blew it out of proportion last night.

3. i find the suspending of this teacher
disturbing in the extreme -- that it was a political geography complete with signed releases just underlines how disturbing.

5. You need a signed release from a parent
to take a political geography class?

I can understand if they were going on a field trip, but WTF.

8. Well...in the report....
they stated that it wasn't a normal Geography class. And that the reason they asked for the release is because of the sometimes controversial discussions.

The teacher and the lawyer ARE suing. And if there is indeed a release...Cherry Creek School District doesn't stand a chance. May be the reason why they're scrambling today and saying that it was NOT disciplinary move.

6. Just like the Pittsburgh area teacher story with the kid w/ Broncos jersey
Turned out the class was a cultural discussion class where all kids learned about how it felt to be in the minority.

The teacher is still teaching...the kid was going to transfer.

Teacher in Jersey Flap won't be Disciplined

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06032/647562.stm

I'm glad. This story seemed like total BS at the time, and I'm glad that the Post-Gazette at least has posted the results of the investigation.

Sounds like the kid is less than popular at his school now, which means he was probably not liked much before either. Color me surprised. You take a class, that needs a permission slip from your parents, which regularly singles people out to show them what it's like to be ridiculed and singled out for being different. Then you specifically do something to stand out, and get to play that part in the class. Then you cry to the press about it.

What a dick that kid must be. Sorry, but he just really sounds like a complete tool now.

7. Damn....my first lead....the station that reported on TV....
is not reporting it that way on their website.

I'm embarrassed to post it because it's the local Fox news...but in my defense I was flipping through the stations and stopped on it. The reporter was talking about the Teacher and his Lawyers response.

Here's from my initial search of their website.

No mention of the release form in this article.

I'll keep searching.
