I really admire Keith Olberman's loyalty and affection toward
Buck O'Neil.

I hope the old guy gets inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

5. So do I.
I think Buck O'Neil is one of the classiest people ever. If you haven't read his book, "I Was Right on Time", I would highly recommend it.

7. Buck
I never really heard of him before KO. Don't know if he belongs in the HOF, but what a cool guy he seems like.

16. He is most beloved here in KC
and the community is pretty pissed off that he didn't get selected for the HOF.

There is a wonderful Negro Leagues Museum here and Buck hangs out there a lot. It isn't unusual to see him there talking to fans. He is especially wonderful to kids.

8. I enjoyed his commentary in Ken Burns miniseries
He never got the recognition he deserved because he was too old to play in the major leagues when integration came, and he was passed over to be the first black manager. Although, he was the first black coach, which made it possible for Frank Robinson to be the first black manager.

9. No Offense Catwoman...
But I know I've seen your posts about Olbermann before, and I know you've had posts correcting your spelling.

I'm just wondering if there's a reason you still spell his name incorrectly? For me, all it takes is a single correction, and then I try not to make the same mistake again.

Do you not like or respect him? I realize it's not as easy to write his name with that extra N....but wouldn't it bother you if friends constantly spelled your name wrong?

It's a free country, so you can spell however you want, but doesn't he deserve this much....especially from us DUers who respect his reporting?

 Best reply ever.

We L.A. County Democrats know your love of Keith trumps a minor error at best.

My name gets misspelled all the time, and I just roll with it. :hi:

11. KO will have a special segment tomorrow night on the politics of this.
He intimated that there is some sort of political reason the voters might have not gone Buck's way and said he's going to explain it.

I'm interested. I hate it when this kind of crap keeps people from getting the recognition they deserve.

14. NOT ONE BUCK.
I'm a native Kansas Citian and Buck has always been a hero to me. A better role model I have never known. MLB would not be what it is today without Buck O'Neil. He is it's greatest ambassador and has been for nearly a century. Amazing.

By denying him his rightful place in the HOF, they have ended their relationship with me.

I'm not going to a single game and I will not watch any of it on TV until they do right.

Not one buck until they do right by Buck.

Are you with me DU? I'm serious about this, so say it with me now - "NOT ONE BUCK UNTIL THEY DO RIGHT BY BUCK."

Spread the word far and wide. I will not rest until he is in the HOF.

I mentioned it upthread a bit. It's really good, and as others have said, he is quite the story teller.

with Dan Patrick for Sportscenter, however.

21. If he isn't inducted, then the Hall should be removed.
NOBODY lived through baseball's darkest days and remains the champion he is like Buck has. He rose above it and WENT ON DOING WHAT HE ALWAYS did, teaching the game and passing his knowledge of the game along.

You are an American Treasure, Mr. O'Neill.

26. Jim Rome has had Buck O'Neil on as a studio guest of his radio show
on more than one occasion, and it's obvious how strongly he feels about him as well. He always gets loads of e-mails from listeners saying how much they enjoyed O'Neils stories about playing and everything he experienced both on and off the field. I haven't had a chance to listen to Rome recently, but I'm guessing he's had a lot to say about this latest snub.

28. Keith and Dan Patrick basically invented SPORTSCENTER
the mainstay of ESPN....they came on the scene and changed the genre of sports news forever.
It's great to see what he is doing for Buck. It shows a true love for the sport and the man.

Go for it KO !!!!
