South Park episode pulled due to condemnation by Catholic League .
Gotta hand it to Parker and Stone, they really have a talent for pissing people off.

"Did Comedy Central grant the Catholic League its Christmas wish?

Following the Dec. 7 season finale of South Park, titled "Bloody Mary," the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights slammed the network for its irreverent portrayal of church icons and sought to block the episode from being rebroadcast.

It appears the group may have met with success. A repeat of the finale was scheduled to air Wednesday night, but was pulled from the Comedy Central lineup without explanation.

In the episode, a statue of the Virgin Mary is believed to be bleeding from its rear end, inspiring faithful parishioners to flock from miles around to be healed by the miraculous blood.

Eventually, Pope Benedict XVI is called in to investigate, whereupon he determines that the statue is actually menstruating and thus is nothing special.

"A chick bleeding out her vagina is no miracle," the pope declares in the episode. "Chicks bleed out their vaginas all the time."

3. Eh, I don't appreciate the Catholics censoring my TV viewing.
I hope Comedy Central thinks about it and tells them to go Hell. This could lead to censoring Jon Stewart Stephen Colbert if they feel they have been offended. Don't give any power to these people. If they don't like it, they know what their remote is for.

It's the Catholic League, the "go to" organization when someone needs a quote from the most conservative fringe of the Roman Catholic Church.

Will freedom of speech mean anything anymore if you're being consered by everyone? That's why you have raitings on things. That's fine by me because you can still say what you want and than you as the viewer or listener can decide to watch/listen or not.

5. Bloody Mary
Mary Queen of Scots (Catholic)? She was given that nickname for killing Protestants during her reign. Her half sister, Elizabeth, the Protestant, killed Catholics in her reign. Over simplification, but the general gist behind the nickname.

Protestants, Catholics, CHRISTIANS, MUSLIMS. Ain't RELIGION wonderful?

9. Catholic League is a joke
Donahue is an attention whore. He follows the religous right (which is not the same as the entire RCC) to the letter.

South Park has taken pot shots at the RCC (and many other faiths) in the past (see Red Hot Catholic Love for example) and I saw that episode. I was not offended by it.

The Catholic League no more speaks for all Catholics as Robertson speaks for all Christians (Protstants).

35. Would Jesus have a public-access show?
If Jesus were to return to earth today, he'd HAVE to get a public-access show if he wanted to go on television. The whole peace and love thing he preaches, that just wouldn't draw ratings next to Jack Van Impe, Robertson and Falwell.

25. Regardless, it's usually a pretty entertaining show.
I don't quite get why Southpark gets bashed so much around here. It's like some people think it's right-wing propaganda put out by the White House. I know plenty of conservative who get pissed about the show sometimes.

Personally, I think the show mentioned in the OP would have offended me (didn't see it), and I wouldn't have watched it. That's why I have a remote control and can change the channel without ever leaving the comfort of my couch. I wish others could think that way and not pop a vessel whenever an episode that offends them comes on. So many people were out of their minds when the global warming (Katrina parody) was on. It's a freaking cartoon!

45. How much South Park do you watch?
The guy that wrote South Park Conservatives is a jackass. The week he was promoting his book, they did a South Park that involved Terry Shiavo, and the Sith Lord villains from Star Wars. The Evil Sith Lord Emperor made the quote "We'll do what we always do. We'll use the Republicans". Eric Cartman is their view of a Republican. Cartman is not something I'd like to be represented as. :)

South Park isn't "left" or "right". They are an equal opportunity basher. If they are anything they are nihilists.

I love it. :D

48. Exactly!
"Cartman is not something I'd like to be represented as."

This is exactly what I've always thought when I've heard people use the term "South Park Republican/Conservative"! If conservatives want a foul, obnoxious, obese, ignorant, anti-Semitic child who the other kids can't stand to be around as a role model, they can have him.

22. Just because they get it right on religion, it doesn't change the fact
that they love bush and made some horrible stands such as the one where the rich blacks came to South Park and they put on sheets to make them leave. Do not oversimplify left-right.
There are known instances where they are attacking each other - on the same side of the spectrum.

To Trey Parker and Matt Stone,

I remember a cordial hello when you guys were beginning to be famous guys around Hollywood at some party. I remember several times getting a few giggles out of your humor. I remember not being bothered as you traded on my name among others to appear witty, above it all, and likeable to your crowd. I never mind being of service, in satire and silliness.

I do mind when anybody who doesn't have a child, doesn't have a child at war, or isn't or won't be in harm's way themselves, is encouraging that there's "no shame in not voting" "if you don't know what you're talking about" (Mr. Stone) without mentioning the shame of not knowing what your talking about, and encouraging people to know. You guys are talented young guys but alas, primarily young guys. It's all well to joke about me or whomever you choose. Not so well, to encourage irresponsibility that will ultimately lead to the disembowelment, mutilation, exploitation, and death of innocent people throughout the world. The vote matters to them. No one's ignorance, indcluding a couple of hip cross-dressers, is an excuse.

All best, and a sincere fuck you,

Sean Penn

P.S. Take this as a personal invitation from me to you (you can ask Dennis Miller along for the ride as well) to escort you on a trip, which I took last Christmas. We'll fly to Amman, Jordan and I'll ride with you in a (?) 12 hours through the Sunni Triangle into Fallujah and Baghdad and I'll show you around. When we return, make all the fun you want

34. Penn's Humor
Saw him being interviewed on the Actors' Studio a while back. Early on the subject was art v entertainment in the movies.

Said Penn: "If you want entertainment, get a hooker and an 8-ball."

Later, during the quiz at the end, Penn was asked what he'd like to hear St. Peter tell him at the pearly gates.

Said Penn: "Here's a hooker and an 8-ball."

As for your original question: If George Carlin punched you in the nose, would that be funny?

I suppose that would depend on the context. Even George Carlin can be funny on occasion.

They have no respect for the value of people, whatsoever.

And every single episode is trying to impart some piece of bullshit "wisdom" as if every halfway intelligent person in the world hasn't thought of the exact point they are trying to make years before- and, many times, discounted it.

I actually think that this show is heavily contributing to the carelessness in our country.

Nor do I find every show they do funny. And politically, I think they're full of shit. However, they do expose prejudicies with their show. The Catholic League never said a word about Cartman's numerous anti-semetic rants, but once they pick on the Catholics, they spring into action. IOW, it's okay to pick on other groups, just not mine.

run by a shrieking, insane bigot named William Donohue.

It's "Board of Advisors" is as follows:

Brent Bozell III
Gerard Bradley
Linda Chavez
Robert Destro
Dinesh D’Souza
Laura Garcia
Robert George
Mary Ann Glendon
Dolores Grier
Alan Keyes
Stephen Krason
Thomas Monaghan
Michael Novak
Kate O’Beirne
Thomas Reeves
Patrick Riley
Robert Royal
Russell Shaw
William Simon, Jr.
Paul Vitz
George Weigel

Reads like a Who's Who of the radical right, eh?
