My Boss is a Goddamn Rightard
So I stand with my sketch pad and here my boss talking about Health care and sort of the lack of it and how expensive it is for average Americans. In agreement I nodded my head. Remember I am not a part of this conversation so I choose to listen while sketching. I couldn't hold back, so I interjected, "what Health care... there is none".

This is when my head almost exploded... he mentions Canada and how bad their systems is. He states that the Canadian Healthcare System is so bad that canadians are crossing over the border to get good care here in the US.
LOLOLOLOLOL.... oh my how contradictory that statement was.

I asked where he had heard that without making eye-contact, and he replied "NPR". Amazing... I wonder if he was lying and just heard this shit on one of Rush (I'm Deaf from Drugs) Limpball's show. Anyway, after that, he was obviously upset that I had said anything at all... great boss to have! And a religious nut ball at that too, where he can get his weekly brainwashing at whatever right wing Fundi Cult he goes to.

Let's keep privatizing so we can pay morrre...... fuckin nut job. Is anyone else hearing this crap about Canada's Health care system? Is this like a new RNC talking point or is it old?

1. My boss said, "I think Dick Cheney is just a sweet old man."
And she was dead serious.

My two coworkers and I just looked at each other with raised eyebrows and didn't say a word - until later over beer. Which we promptly spewed all over.

3. my former boss was a fundie rightwinger
After 9/11 he would tell everyone that he wanted to work harder because it was his way of supporting troops who are defending our freedom. Then he would sit in his office and half the time you can see he was surfing the web from the reflectoin in the window.

We had some debates during the 2000 election and at one point afterwards I got him to admit that Bush wasnt doing a good job regarding domestic policy.

He moved to another job by 2004, but Id love to ask him if he feels stupid for being a Repuke now.

5. He was right (and so was Rush) on the Statement that .....
"Some Canadians have traveled over the border to receive American Health Care"
(They went to American Hospitals).

Sounds pretty damning of the Canadian Health Care System..Right?

Ah..Yeah..until you hear the "Rest of the story"

Some Canadians HAVE crossed over the Border into the USA...
When they have had a heart attack or other seriously IMMEDIATE
need for a hospital/doctor AND the closest Doctor/Hospital
just happen to be in the USA (The Sick people just happened to live in
remote areas ..along the border, where hospitals are far away).

Repugs LOVE saying this Crap but leave out the facts through either
Ignorance or deception.

7. I Figured as Much
The kicker was him first complaining about the costs of private healthcare here in the US and then trying to contrast our system with a more socialized AFORDABLE system in Canada.

All I had to say was, ya great idea. Maybe the Canadians should privatize their system so they can bitch and moan like us. How incredibly stupid...

6. The next meme that the cons are going to use about this issue:
Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 09:45 PM by brainshrub
"Dogs can get treated faster than humans in Canada."

The argument is false, of course, but watch out here it comes.

Health-care issues are very important to me, and I monitor the debate closely. The cons have a video coming called "Dead Meat" that purports to show the weaknesses of the Canadian system.

I watched a preview of the video last night: I swear to god, I've never seen more disinformation squeezed into 20 minutes in my life!

Basic argument: "If the US switches to a Canadian-based single-payer system... YOU WILL DIE WAITING FOR TREATMENT!!! BE AFRAID!!! BE AFRAID!!!!"

This time I think it's going to backfire on them. The internet makes it very easy for Americans to find and contact a real Canadian and ask for their opinion.

I can imagine the IM chats now:

Freeper: So, are you from Canada?

Canadian: Yup.

Freeper: I hear you have to wait for basic treatment.

Canadian: Oh yeah, last month I had a cold and I had to wait a whole hour to see a doctor.

Freeper: No, I mean for operations and stuff.

Canadian: It's true! When I needed my kidney operated on, I waited about a week for the non-critical surgery. But I did get it, and I didn't need to argue with an insurance company.

Freeper: No wait... I've been told that you all have to wait for surgery... and that you die in the meantime!

Canadian: Well, you are being lied to. The system isn't perfect but it works great! By the way, how long do the uninsured wait for treatment in the US?

Freeper: Hold on, let me find out what Limbaugh has to say about that.

9. yesterday an article canada is 30? and u.s. 37. find it print it and
Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 09:30 PM by seabeyond
hand it to him in the morning. with canada in such a mess what does that say about u.s. health care. the only reason they come over the border, they cant use money to get ahead in line or get a upscale doctor, they can do that in the u.s. the people in u.s. get good care if they have plenty of money otherwise it is poor enough that averaging it out we come in behind canada. anyway, not confrontational with boss, just tell him, his conversation got you thinking and reminded you of this article/

also, we own a business and WANT to provide health care for employees, but it is so bad, and we are small, we may not be there long to be able to give this. so there with his concerns

besides, kerry had a plan to fix it, not going canadas way, but bettering our way. we can figure out what works with canada and what doesnt, we have that luxury. but we absolutely have to address this issue soon.
