2. This is the primary
There is no republican on the ballot, so whoever wins the primary will be elected in November.

6. They are both at least nominally Dems
Cuellar beat Rodriguez in the 2004 primary amid many claims of fruad. Cuellar has proven to be a reliable DINO---became notorious for sitting on the GOP side of the house at the last State of the Union and having a picture taken of Bush pinching his cheeks. That picture, widely circulated on the internet has turned into a fund-raising bonanza for Ciro Rodriguez, with Act Blue, DFA and Move On taking up his cause.

4. It's a Democratic primary, with no Republican running in the general
Cuellar is such an uber-DINO, he makes Lieberman look like a socialist. Ciro is the guy he primaried out in 2004, with the help of Republicans

5. wow.
Lucky there's no Repug in this one... Why is the election now? Who are they replacing? Did somebody die after 04? Or did they just have to hold a special election because ciro got primaried out?

8. Cuellar is the incumbent, Ciro is the challenger wanting his seat back
I wish I didn't have to mention Cuellar in these threads, because hes worse than some Republicans. But yanno, gotta be fair and balanced ;)

10. Don't take anything for granted
South Texas elections have had a way of turning out in very special ways since way before Diebold.

For example...

As early votes pile up in Webb County, the campaign of former Congressman Ciro Rodriguez is questioning the very gray tint of some of the ballots cast there last week.

Luis Vera, a San Antonio attorney representing the campaign, asked the Texas secretary of state's office to investigate the number of votes cast by people 90 and older.

Vera said Democrats 90 and older cast 93 ballots in the first four days of early voting, which started last Tuesday, and 51 people 100 or older turned out to vote. The information was gleaned from voter rolls, which include birth dates.

"It just seems like a very high number, especially the people over 100," campaign manager Oscar Sanchez said. Statistically, "certainly it would be an anomaly."
