CIA Notes Show LIBBY Knew Name Of V. Plame Month Before Cover Blown!

Scooter notes ID'd CIA spy

BY JAMES GORDON MEEK
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON - Handwritten notes taken by the CIA show Vice President Cheney's top aide knew the name of CIA spy Valerie Plame a month before her cover was blown.

It appears to be the first known document in the hands of prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald that directly contradicts Lewis (Scooter) Libby's claim he learned from reporters in July 2003 that Valerie Plame was a CIA employee.

......................

Plame's husband, former Ambassador Joe Wilson, was a Bush critic dispatched to Niger by the CIA in 2002 to see if Iraq had shopped for uranium. "A CIA employee assigned to provide daily intelligence briefs to the Vice President and Libby has handwritten notes indicating that Libby referred to 'Joe Wilson' and 'Valerie Wilson' by those names in conversation with the briefer on June 14, 2003," Fitzgerald wrote in a recently unsealed brief.

The filing suggests Cheney may have been present when Libby griped to his CIA briefer about agency officials slamming the veep in the press.

Seven officials have testified that Libby raised the CIA spy with them before columnist Robert Novak outed her. In the filing, Fitzgerald also revealed that his investigators also confiscated computers.

Meanwhile, a judge overseeing Libby's perjury trial ruled yesterday that Libby won't get any copies of the secret daily intelligence briefings for Cheney and President Bush.

15. Actually Libby claimed he learned of Plame from Tim Russert. Timmy
says oh no he didn't. Russert said they never discussed Wilson's wife.

The indictment makes clear that Libby knew by early/mid June about Wilson's wife, specifically citing meetings, discussions and dates. Recall that Fitz also has Libby's notes, reportedly the source of the information included in the indictment that Cheney told Libby that Wilson's wife worked in the CIA's Counterproliferation Division (Operations, where the spies work) in early June. The indictment also mentions a June 14th meeting with a CIA briefer.

This article provides a bit more detail about the June 14th meeting from an unsealed Fitz brief citing the CIA briefer's notes.

Libby now doesn't deny that he knew about Plame earlier and from various gov't sources than he initially told the investigation/grand jury. He's now claiming he was so busy with work he simply forgot about being told repeatedly by various gov't officials about Wilson's wife working at the CIA and so was just "mistaken" when he repeatedly claimed he first learned about it from Russert around July 10. Yeah, he's bascially going for the "amnesia" defense. His amnesia and confusion also presumably covers his "mistatements" regarding his dealings with Judy Miller, also.

Wilson wasn't a Bush critic when he was sent to Niger. He become a Bush critic when the rat bastard lied in his SOTU speech!

9. They're like that
They are predominently right wing, although they are not as bad as the NY Post. I don't think any newspaper is as bad as the NY Post.

13. Joe Wilson
did not become a Bush critic until AFTER the trip to Niger, indeed, until after his report after returning from Niger was ignored.
