Do you like the "Be Patriotic Impeach Bush" Billboard?
We do, too. It's running us $11,000 a month and we could use some help to keep it up - even $11. If you really like the billboard, then "bigger is better" applies. Tell ten firends and you all bought a 1% interest!

21. +++Prove Impeachment is not just RIGHT, it's the WINNING thing to do! +++
Edited on Sun Feb-26-06 06:42 PM by pat_k
By supporting -- and enlisting others to support -- candidates like Carl Sheeler who are demanding Impeachment we prove that fighting for Impeachment is not just the RIGHT thing to do, it is the WINNING thing to do.

Right NOW, you can take a few minutes to send email to Randi Rhodes, Mike Malloy, Laura Flanders, or other people who have BIG MEGAPHONES, and ask them to call on their listeners to support people like Carl Sheeler. If you can carve out a little time, check the schedules and call shows on the AAR listener line.

And don't forget Keith Olberman!! the Sheeler for U.S. Senate "Impeach Bush" billboard provides great video to accompany a segment on one candidate's battle to Impeach Bush and restore legitimate government. (Countdown with KO site)

More from this post:

Air America Radio is a great way to get the word out to the "troops"!

The call in number is the same for all the shows: 1-866-303-2270

Check out the schedule at http://airamericaradio.com for shows. My top choices are:

Weekends -- Laura Flanders (7 PM to 10 PM EST)

Weekdays -- Randi Rhodes (3 PM to 7 PM EST), Mike Malloy (10 PM to 1 AM EST)

Any of us can call in and talk about how the Sheeler for U.S. Senate Campaign in Rhode Island. is fighting for Impeachment -- and how we can use his campaign to send a message to candidates across the nation. Looking for something to say? Some ideas:
  • Money Talks
If the Sheeler for U.S. Senate campaign raises a SIGNIFICANT amount of money is a SHORT time, we can point to it as proof that fighting for Impeachment is not just the RIGHT thing to do, it is the WINNING thing to do!

As we call on our own elected officials and candidates to fight for impeachment, the most powerful thing we can bring to the table is a concrete example of a campaign that is mobilizing people and raising real money. We can make the Sheeler for U.S. Senate Campaign that example!

We don't have many leaders who are making powerful demands for Impeachment. If we want more of them, we must contribute what we can, spread the word, and ask others to do the same. Go to www.carlsheeler.com NOW.

Doing whatever we can to make the Sheeler campaign a watershed -- spreading the word, contributing whatever we can, and urging others to do the same - may be the most effective thing anyone can do right now.

  • His "Impeach Bush" Billboard is fantastic!
People can check it out on the carlsheeler.com (and while there, why not make a contribution?)

If we want to see MANY more billboards like this, we need to get on the stick. Call on MoveOn.org or Working Assets start an "Impeach Bush billboards" furd raising drive.

  • ANY state legislature can initiate impeachment
I'll say that again. As described in section 603 of the U.S. House Rules, any state legislature can initiate impeachment by describing the charges in a resolutin and conveying that resolution to the U.S. House of Representatives. Carl Sheeler is calling on the Rhode Island Assembly to do just that. We can do the same thing in our states. Go to afterdowningstreet.org and check out the "In Your State" section.

27. Got on!
Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 12:56 AM by pat_k
I called about an hour into the show and got right through. Maybe I was just lucky, or perhaps Laura Flanders isn't a very difficult show to get through to (I haven't tried before, so couldn't say).

After about a 10 minute wait she took my call during the "media roundtable" discussion (the good and bad in the media with Terry Allen and Jordan Flaherty). I didn't get to say much. Started "on topic" with comments on Jane Mayer's "The Memo" (which Terry Allen had highlighted). . I was pretty discombobulated, but managed to get the following in (approx an hour into the MP3):

Pat: I've been very frustrated that so few candidates -- um-- I mean, I think that, aside from John Conyers and the 25 members of Congress who are co-sponsoring his Impeachment Inquiry, I'm only aware of one other candidate who is out there, demanding Impeachment, loud and clear, and that's - ah - Carl Sheeler, who is running for U.S. Senate in Rhode Island.

And, ah from your blog it looked like Jim Dean and some other folks were going to be online - um. .

Laura: Yeah, we're gonna to have Jim Dean, Democracy for America on our program in the next hour, and that is one of the questions we should raise with him. let me yes. . .

Pat: And that was was really my challenge. Is that-- I think that it may be that your listeners and people who want to see Bush and Cheney get Impeached -- ah - what we need to do is seek out the candidates who are demanding Impeachment and do everything in our power to support them so we can prove to - uh -- sort of rank and file dems that it's not just the right thing to do, it's the Winning thing to do.

Laura: Allright, thanks for the call. Appreciate it. There are a bunch -- It's an interesting situation, where you have a have a bunch of people in the alternative media -- so called -- The Nation magazine had Elizabeht Holtzman, a big story, "The Case for Impeachment," I believe. Harper's has a similar piece in the current issue. This is a story where you have one conversation happening in the so-called alternative media, and another conversation happening in the media I call the independent media -- The ones that are independent of reality. What do you think it's gonna take? Is it gonna take candidates coming out, talking about Impeachment to get anyone saying the word in the Washington Post? New York Times? What do you think? Terry Allen?

Terry: Well, it's certainly going to take people thinking that um ceasing power is more important than oral sex in the oval office.

Laura: Nicely put! Let's take another call . .

23. DC Denial -- Why Demanding Impeachment is the ONLY option!
The executive branch has been taken over by a fascist faction that is violating our laws and the most fundamental tenets of our Constitution. (Monarchists, fascists, theocrats -- the label doesn't really matter. What defines them all is a belief in rule by the "right people.")

Many -- but surely not all -- of their crimes are well-known. They are war criminals guilty of torturing in our name; they flagrantly break our laws to spy on us; they terrorized us with the most colossal bomb threat in history: mushroom clouds over our cities in 45 minutes.

The Bush racketeers gleefully conspire to thwart the will of the American people to grab and consolidate the power they believe they have a right to. They view the rest of humanity as pawns to be manipulated to their own ends. They twist reality to justify the atrocities they commit in our name (Demonstrated with crystal clarity in Jane Mayer's recent reports in the New Yorker.

In the face of these realities, we do not need our leaders to come up with an agenda. We do not need 10 step plans. We do not need them to offer the administration policy solutions.

When a corporate leadership team, led by a criminal CEO, is embezzling, the board does not politely ask them to stop. The board does not "try to work with them" on other issues. The board accuses them of their crimes, boots them out, and seeks to have them punished.

In our Constitutional democracy, the people are "the board" and the United States Congress is our voice.

As "the board" we have but one option: Expose the crimes committed by Bush, Cheney, and their co-conspirators, demand Impeachment of Bush and Cheney, and lobby our elected officials and candidates to demand Impeachment.

Impeachment is the only option because ANYTHING ELSE -- offering them plans, changing laws to make their crimes not crimes, trying to work with them through "politics as usual" channels -- does nothing but legitimize their fascist takeover.

A vast majority of our leaders are failing to recognize this fundamental truth. Even those "leaders" who are making a sincere effort to represent our interests remain trapped by the delusion that the Racketeers in the Bush White House and their henchmen in the Congress and Judiciary operate within rational limits.

Their denial is deep, but every time a citizen confronts a member of Congress and demands that they act in accordance with simple truths and moral principles, we chip away at their denial. They are slowly "getting it." It has been painfully slow, but when your head is already muddled with beltway idiocy, recognizing fundamental truths about the world the PNACons (pee na cons -- PNAC crowd and co-conspirators) occupy is a tall order.

The first step on the road to sanity is to let go of all the "shoulds" (it should be this way or that way) and confront and act on what is.

The grim reality is that as long as we permit the fascists to exercise power, they will abuse it in their pursuit of ever more power. The Bush syndicate will never submit to legitimate authority unless forced to.

Whatever label Americans may apply to themselves (liberal, conservative, centrist, progressive, whatever), any who stand by the principle of consent are, first and foremost, Anti-Fascists charged with doing whatever they can to resist the fascist agenda.

When anti-fascists face reality, their duty becomes crystal clear. Negotiating, or trying to influence the fascists is not an option.

Anything we do to support the pretense that the fascists exercise legitimate authority -- negotiating with them, offering "plans" to them, or calling on them to "come clean" -- makes us complicit with their actions.

The only option is to force them out of power and punish them for their crimes.

The only option is to demand the Impeachment of Bush and Cheney NOW!

Every action we take needs to bring us closer to Impeaching Bush and Cheney, forcing their henchmen out of power, exposing their crimes, and punishing them. Before committing ourselves to any effort, we must decide whether or not it advances these goals. If the effort doesn't, then we probably can't afford to give it our time and energy.

her head tell her to do something. The sacrifice is small relative to the achievement. Her energy is apparent but like most good teams feeds from sharing energy among others.

Yes, I benefit from her efforts, but don't we all. Isn't that the point of DU of us spending hours each week here or at the water cooler. If it's just to whine, but do nothing, we're acting like victims with no options.

You deserve better, we all do. Thank you Pat.

34. It is true was a Reagan era Repub.
... like many in my 20's and in the military and paying my own way through college on not much more than minimum wage jobs and peanut butter sandwiches, tired of high unemployment and even higher interest rates and botched Iran rescue, I needed more. He was for less government, which I favored. I voted the candidate, not the party. I understand what "good business - good government" means. The GOP was not it. Never hid the fact that I was a social progressive and push financial responsibility. Like many I found my religion, wisdom and voice after having kids and having enough and wanting to believe there's something more than getting more. There is sharing with others, which started with volunteer work and contributions, but it wasn't enough and it eventually dawns on you there's a one party system masquerading as a two party system.... well the rest you know.

33. Sheldon Whitehouse and Matt Brown are in the Dem primary
If your yardstick is bucks, Sheldon wins. Matt wins based on the degree he will modify his stump speech to appeal to the broadest audience. Stands for winning, not representing and is about out of funds. Most refer to him as Sheldon-lite, an opportunist who has stated being a US Senator was his legacy. Getting warm fuzzy feelings having another elite serve the people. Which people? Not "my people". Middle class people. If a better field of candidates were running, I would be supporting one of them and not put my life and work (father of five and have own business) on hold.

37. With Impeachment in the mix, there are NO Long shots. . .
Right now, public demand for candidates who are fighting for impeachment is high, and the supply is low -- a condition that completely upsets the Money=Voters relationship. In fact, that equation is NEVER right.

Here is a link to the site, it's a great group who works in tandem with our local Dem party. I'm a member of both.

Here are a couple more, the most recent one is not yet posted on the site:

These two just above here were posted not long after the 04 (s)election. We Dems won the city for the first time in living memory and it was great fun to rub it in. You shoulda seen the whining letters to the paper! haha

If the billboard had led with a positive message & then added the other -- it would be far more powerful. Candidates need to define what they intend to do for voters -- not simply what they're against.

Any fool can burn down a house. ...It takes a leader to build one.

Rhode Islanders (of my acquaintance) are much like Alaskans - take care of those who need to be taken care of; watch out for those less fortunate; educate our children to think for themselves; keep our environment clean; and then get the government the hell out of our lives...

Sending a few $$ your way as well as my best wishes for your success -
