How can people be so ill-informed?...Posted on Craig's List
quote....
Why is Iraq going bad?

The answer to this question is simple. The desire by the Bush administration to keep the anti-war, anti-Bush, anti-American factions in this country happy, or at least somewhat appeased, is to blame. Since we had to fight this war with kids gloves on, to tread lightly against the terrorist, lest we "upset" the lefties in this country and they cause total civil unrest, much like what happened in the late 60's and early 70's across the nation, we basically entered this war with one hand tied behind our back, a blindfold on, and our feet in shackles.

For this reason, we have not been able to launch a total war against the enemy and destroy him. As such, he has been free to launch attacks which do the most damage with the least cost to his side. This includes things like blowing up churches which are considered sacred places. It is interesting to note that despite the number of Churches blown up in WWII, no one found this to be a reason to extend the war for longer, to kill their neighbor (they found better excuses instead) or to hate America. Instead, they loved the U.S. for winning their freedom.

Thanks libs, you just keep destroying this country.

17. I recall my kid's 1st birthday party...
We had a lot of people come over (at my in-laws), and my in-law's neighbor was nice enough to let some of our guests park in his driveway. We invited him for some cake, etc.

Things were winding down and he was talking to my FIL (father in law, you see, you CAN define acronyms!). Anyway, as voices sometimes carry ('Til Tuesday?) I heard him say, and I'm not kidding, "As far as *I'm* concerned we should have just shot off a nuke right in the middle of Bagdad at the start..."

Just to give people some perspective...

3. Methinks this is someone who
was for the Viet Nam war and blames our pullout on the protestors instead of on the fact it was an unwinnable war. I would shudder to think what this person thought was the "right" way to wage the war in Iraq-I didn't see Bush 'holding back' because of any of the protests. The problems with Iraq started when not enough troops were sent in to begin with-and this was Rumsfeld's choice, and wasn't made because of anti-war protests-Rumsfeld just knew better than career military officers. The problems continued when Bush ordered the Iraqi army to be disbanded but didn't confiscate weapons but instead allowed arsonals to be looted. The problems continued when the country wasn't secured, infrastructure wasn't repaired, and Iraqis weren't immediately enlisted in a security force to take over from our troops. All of these decisions were made by Bushco and Buscho alone, with no regards to anyone, especially the anti-war protestors. Sounds like this writer drank the Kool Aid long ago though, and won't bother to look at the facts. Sad, because I've used these very talking points to argue with people who supported the war, and they have agreed with me on many of them.

4. Well, we lefties do have s-o-o-o-o-o-o much power.
I mean, we control the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government, as well as the media. So of course we're calling the shots.

Adding unnecessary :sarcasm: tag.

6. If they're gonna equate the Iraq War with WWII
then there's no problem making the following associations:

Bush = Hitler

9/11 = Reichstag Fire

Detention Camps = Concentration Camps

Propaganda = Propaganda

8. Argh!
A stance which totally ignores the fact that the vast majority of Iraqis AREN'T terrorists, and that going total war on them would cause thousands, or tens of thousands, of innocent people to be slain. I don't have a problem going after "terrorists," but I have a real problem with catching innocent men, women, and children in the crossfire.

Of course, if you're an asshole, I guess it doesn't matter.

12. That's the 'logic' of an abuser. Near psychotic.
It's the spouse's fault (s)he failed at work. After all, if (s)he didn't have to worry about him/her then (s)he'd have done a better job. This is the 'logic' of someone who cannot take personal responsibility and must find scapegoats. This is someone who'd abuse their spouse or children. Fucking insane.

18. "One hand tied behind our back.." Bwahahahahaahahaaha!
What happened to "shock and awe"? The insurgents are massively outgunned and overwhelmingly outnumbered - according to the geniuses at the CIA and Pentagon.

In Vietnam, according to the same brilliant stragegists, the NVA/VC were not only outgunned and outnumbered, they were completely destroyed (according to the "body counts") several times over.

The reason the war is lost in Iraq is for the same reasons it was lost in Vietnam. The politicians and generals based their assumptions on "winning" on the body counts, tonnage of bombs dropped, and purely "military" statistics. Ignoring the fact that war is about politics, and the military aspect is only a factor in the outcome. The Vietnamese and the insurgents in Iraq understand that. The politicians and generals here cling to the notion that wars are won by the military.

19. Ah, the lament of the Willfully Ignorant!
Iraq is going exactly as most on the left (and a lot of now-retired military brass) said it would. Neocons said two weeks and flowers. We called it like it has turned out.

So the failure is because of us? Hey, morans, WE TRIED TO STOP YOU! We told you all this was gonna happen! The junta ignoring reality is the reason for the reality now.
