CAUGHT-NYT Yanks "CIVIL WAR" Story
New York Times, with same facts, changes Iraq conflict from 'civil war' to having 'endangered future'
RAW STORY
Published: February 24, 2006

The New York Times declared on its website early Friday in a headline that the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, had warned to U.S. was on the "precipice of full-scale civil war." Their headline? "U.S. Envoy in Baghdad Says Iraq Is on Brink of Civil War."

Within an hour and without explanation, the Times yanked the headline in favor of "U.S. Envoy Says Sectarian Violence Threatens Iraq's Future."

Originally, their lead paragraph had read: "The American ambassador to Iraq said Friday that the country was on the precipice of full-scale civil war, and that Iraqi leaders would have to come together and compromise if they wanted to save their homeland."

An hour later: "The American ambassador to Iraq said Friday that sectarian violence this week had endangered the future of Iraq, and that Iraqi leaders would have to come together and compromise if they wanted to save their homeland."

1. Just so everyone is clear on this...
At this point in South East Asia our troops were being pulled out
on anything which would fly or float.

Is there any question this is about oil?

6. I'm waiting for the pictures of our people
being plucked off rooftops onto waiting helicopters. It won't be long, now.

What are they afraid of? The truth? Our media has been cowed by the Bush administration.

9. Not the only time either
Whats up with Bush getting the NYT to sit on the NSA spying story during the election year? That all just went away for the Republicans (and the NYT!) just like Katrina sems to be doing, and everything else

5. A "civil war" by any other name would bleed a nation.
They can call it a disagreement, a tiff, a spat or any other pretty name they choose...the end results are the same.

11. Who reads the NYT for news anymore?
Except for a few columnists, the NYT is merely a BushCo mouthpiece. How many examples do people need to see to realize that this is true. Punch has thrown his lot in with BushCo and everyone else can go to hell.

12. You know, whoever they are blackmailing over at the NYT
ought to just go ahead and get it over with and let it come out.

If they have pictures, let em rip...if they are threatening lives, record it and let it rip.

God, I would never live that way...if it was threats, I would make DAMN sure that I took an asshole or two with me on my way out.

13. Here's the real problem with this -
Which of the stories is true? If the first version is true, then they have replaced it with a lie. They did not just change the wording - the story is now a different story. This just makes me sick that any newspaper (but especially the NY TIMES) would simply lie, outright, for their fascist masters and screw the public. I am sick of living in Bush's Leninist America...

15. WHAT Media??
The mainstream media in this country has been taking marching orders from this administration since 9/11, so no surprise that they are burying the severity of this story as well. They are like puppets on a string. I stopped getting my news of what was going on in Iraq from US sources ages ago. Check out the international headlines on this story - far different picture:

Uruknet.info - Italy - "Day Two of Iraq's Civil War: Hundreds Killed; 7 US Soldiers Killed"

Zaman Online - Turkey - "Civil War Threats Rise in Iraq"

New Zealand Herald - "Iraq Slides Towards Civil War"

BBC - "Iraq's Civil War Nightmare"

ABC Online - Australia - "Iraq Civil War Likely: Arab Journalist"

This opposed to the US mainstream media stories which all refer to "Sectarian Violence."

17. the front page of my local today--"Iraq on the brink of Chaos"
i think the civil war began some time ago and the Bush machine has been using Zarqawi's name to make it look like it's not an inside problem.
