Dubai company to CLOSE DEAL next week....read on
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 09:07 AM by spanone
According to the New York Times, they are CLOSING THE DEAL next week just not 'taking control'.

Sounds like the old bait & switch to me.

~snip~ WASHINGTON, Feb. 23 — The Dubai company at the center of a political furor over its plans to take over some terminal operations at six American ports said Thursday night that it planned to close the deal next week, but that it would "not exercise control" over its new operations in the United States while the Bush administration tried to calm opposition in Congress

EDIT: meanwhile bushco will use it's wiretapping facilities to blackmail any members of Congress who disagree. IMHO

2. I'm sure they are furiously greasing every palm they can get to
right now. I think that is what this whole thing is all about, they were pissed that nobody cut them in on the deal, so you make a little stink, pick up some political points, get your palms heavily greased, and go merrily on your way. I read this morning in the WAPO that Gov. Erlich "is coming around" to agreeing with the deal. My, my, that was fast. Blackmail or bribery? Who knows.

4. This whole thing is total sham. It's just BUSINESS as usual.
Bush is just keeping his promise to "run America like a business." In "Business," the CEO delegates all sorts of responsibilities, just as Bush has done. They just write company policy and act, the legal wranglings are all just part of the dance. They know full well that once the deal is inked, a judge will -- especially a Bush-appointed corporate-friendly judge -- will be hard pressed to find a legitimate reason (at least, legitimate for the businessmen) to disrupt such a huge deal. Accountants will begin assessing the company's losses per day, per hour, as if magically a money spiggot was going to be turned on once the Emir had his name painted on the Executive Suite door. It will be the evil, racist liberal protectionists who are somehow putting a cork in the moeny flow by asking that the law be followed, and a thorough review of this transaction and its connections to BushCo, are investigated, and the nation's security be reviewed first and foremost, above all other considerations.

But no. It's only business, people. Just like Bush promised.

5. Once this deal is done, you can bet it's a done deal.
