The Difference ONE Person Can Make
The Difference One Person Can Make
Submitted by davidswanson on Sat, 2006-02-18 11:51. Activism
By Bob Blumenthal, www.pdamerica.org

In Morris County, NJ there is an intersection at Kinnelon Road and
Route 23. Between 7:30 am and 9:00 am, about 8,000 cars pass this
point. In early December, I decided to stage a one man protest against
the war. Using a Peace Action Stop the War sign, I stood by my lonely
at this busy morning commute area. On the first Monday, I received
little response as the cars whizzed by. However, on succeeding Mondays,
things began to get more interesting. Some drivers pulled off the road
to stand wtih me, while others gave me the middle finger. Now that I
have an audience, my signs have changed to reflect specific concerns.
One sign presented this message- tooth fairy, Easter Bunny, Iraqi
Freedom Fighter. Another asked, "How much oil is your child worth?
Each Monday I try to come up with something original. On many
occasions, I was joined by one of my neighbors. I am hoping that peace
minded people will leave for work a little earlier to stand with me. I
always have extra signs in my car. Two weeks ago, a reporter from the
local paper took my picture and interviewed me while I was
demonstrating. Hopefully, by reminding people every week about the
folly of this war, some minds will be changed. Politicians listen to
the people, and if the locals make enough noise, maybe some congressmen
will pay attention.

3. We have some heroes too. Always, always honk support
I can't stop because I'm needed by family needs. I imagine myself there. I would feel like I was doing service for America again.

It sure is frustrating when simple minds yell BS at you.

4. True Patriot!! We stand every Sunday afternoon on the Plaza in Kansas City
and if we could get every person who honks and waves in support, to stop and stand with us, there would be thousands standing on the side of the road with us! Thanks for reminding us, kpete! :patriot:

8. Thanks Kpete.
I would be proud to stand beside you. I was just about to spout some poetic tripe instead here is a simple idea that illustrates the power of one person. Keep up the great work!

14. Good for you!!! You stand for us all. It's the "myopia" of the US public
about the truth that is the single biggest block to making thiings better, and that's what you're addressing directly. Even some of the middle-finger-waving people may slowly start to think - seeing one sign might not be enough on its own, but it can start or push the process of waking up.
