Central Fla. School District Bans MySpace.com

A Central Florida school district has banned students from visiting the popular Web site MySpace.com.

Polk County officials blocked MySpace.com from all school computers after complaints from parents, according to Local 6 News.

The social networking Web site allows users to create profiles that can include photos, personal information and even cell phone numbers.

Parents in Polk County were concerned about the safety of their children, especially with recent sexual attacks and drug-dealing linked to the site, Local 6 News reported.

2. Good. Heard Kim Kommando (sp?) this weekend briefly; she
told the story of a 27 year old woman, w/a 7 year old child, who was killed by someone she met there. Doesn't sound too healthy to me, and that little child no longer has a mom as a result.

3. One of my daughters's friends has a close up of her in her
underwear. The picture is taken from the mid thigh to just above the belly button. She's wearing one of those boy-cut panties. What is incredible is that the father knows about it, and so does the principal of her Christian school. I thought they had removed it when they knew about it, but it's still on her webpage.

4. Colleges and companies are now doing searches on these sites ...
... to find out info about potential students and potential employees (who would have to use their real names on their sites -- or their friends would). Article in WaPo (I think) this past weekend recommended not putting pix of yourself in underwear or holding a bong or giving all kinds of skeevy personal details about yourself ... it said employers can also judge you by the company you keep ... if your profile is straight-arrow, but your friends who post on your site are idiots, it can reflect badly.

Companies also using facebook.com, since it's an all-college site.

Yikes, has life ever gotten complicated!
