How many pellets were taken out of Whittington ?
Edited on Tue Feb-14-06 05:49 PM by brainshrub
I don't need to know how many pellets hit him, how many were taken out?

I've heard "40" but I can't find the source.

This is important because I'm working on some algebra that may show that Wellington was much closer to Cheney than reported.

Please help.

2. Right wing woman called C Span this morning and said she's been
peppered by shotguns many times while bird hunting. She said it just stings a little. Kinda like falling down in gravel..

6. Yeah, I hate it when I get one of those gravel heart attacks. Almost
as bad as an ice cream headache.

4. Its Whittington, unless you were making a joke about meat
which would prolly be in poor taste, considering.

I doubt, even if they told us the count, that it would be accurate enough to help you.

7. All I know is that the docs said there are approx. 100 left in him.
I'd love to know how many they took out if they left 100 in him. There were approx. 300 pellets total, so AT LEAST 1/3 hit him. At 30 yards?

The caption reads: A 28-gauge shotgun shell contains about 300 pellets of shot.

8. I was talking about this with a friend of mine -
here's what he said: if it's true that Whittington took about 100 buck shots, that means Cheney was REALLY close to him.

Don't forget, it was freezing cold on Saturday. Mr. Whittington probably wore a pretty thick jacket. Cheney was supposedly more than 30 yards away, and he somehow "peppered" him with a few bee-bee's.

My friend said, "If Cheney really stood about 30 yards away, the buckshot would have dissipated a lot more. They would have dispersed so that only a few buckshots would have hit Mr. Whittington.

But if Cheney stood closer....

9. Yep, that's exactly right.
It was cold and windy here on Saturday. I know because I spent nearly the entire day outside at my kids' games. My fingers were numb. My toes felt like they were fixin' to snap off. Anyone outside, particularly around sunset, would've worn thick clothing. They probably drank something to keep warm inside, too. It could've been hot chocolate or coffee, but somehow I doubt it.

13. Nah, not freezing cold. But the winds were wicked that day.
Gusts about 30+mph from the north. It felt 20 degrees colder than the temps indicated. And, believe it or not, I do know cold. I lived in Canada for a number of years. But when it was close to 80F here for a couple of days last week, that weekend seemed extremely cold. In fact, had they gone hunting last week rather than Saturday, Harry W. might've taken even more birdshot. His heavy clothing probably protected him to an extent.

17. I just remembered the humidity down there.
High humidity would make it seem colder.

12. Ironically, that is the post I am fact-checking.
I have permission from "sellitman" to re-post it to my blog. I am fact-checking, editing, adding graphics, and will include more information than the original post.

By the time I'm done it will no longer be a re-post, it will be almost re-writen. :D

14. They said he had from SIX to 200 IN him, and they've changed the size
They said they are not concerned about other birdshot — widely estimated to be between six and 200 pieces — that might still be lodged in Whittington’s body. Cheney was using 7 ½ shot from a 28-gauge shotgun.

Original reports said number six birdshot, not seven and a half....
