21. Of all the LAME excuses they've come up with ...
... (so far, but it's ONLY Monday) that one is the lamest. What if the 'ranch owner' had been trekking in the Australian outback and couldn't be reached? Would they have left the incident unreported for a month or so, until she returned?

WTF? This one REALLY SMELLS ...

36. I also want to know why the reporters in the area didn't
find it when they went to check the police reports.

Wasn't there a police report? There's supposed to be any time someone is shot with a gun. In Texas, as in most states, when someone is admitted to the ER with a gunshot wound, then it's the duty of the ER to report the incident to the local police, who, in turn, make a report. That report is ALWAYS public information - even during an investigation.

(I covered law enforcement for a newspaper for 12 years).

46. The incident involves an ELECTED (well, sort of) LEADER of the nation
He friken reports to the AMERICAN PEOPLE, not to some ranch owner. Public interest trumps any issues she might have. If she didn't want the publicity, she shouldn't have invited Little Sure Shot to her ranch to kill tame game!

11. 36% of respondents are just plain Bush apologists
Because there is absolutely NO logical reason why anyone would think it should have been left up to the ranch owner. If someone gets shot on MY property, would it be up to me whether or not it should be reported? That's just nuts.

16. What a bogus choice
"Yes, by not doing so it only turned the spotlight on itself."

What about "Yes, by not doing so, it appeared that they're trying to hide something, and as we all know, people who've done nothing wrong have nothing to hide, so what did the White House do wrong that they're trying to cover up."

Now THAT's a "yes" vote I could heartily endorse.

Though I did vote, and oddly enough, the meter seems stuck at 64-36 yes.

Or Yes, waiting 24 hours indicates there is something fishy

50. This looks really bad for Cheney
I mean, 22 hours? This means everyone went to bed and got a good night's sleep while the shooting victim was in the ICU with possibly several hundred gunshot pellets in his face and neck.

According to a surgeon's post over at SteveGilliard.blogspot.com, these pellets can block the carotid artery (which feeds the brain) and they can travel throughout the body.

Something is fishy here.

If you're interested, google

bertha marvin bush driveway

to read about another incident where the White House took a long time to report anything to the public. In this case, 62-year-old Bertha Champagne, who worked as a babysitter and maid for W's brother Marvin Bush (who had just been put in charge of security at the World Trade Center before 9/11), was found dead in Marvin's driveway, crushed against a wall by her own vehicle. The death was ruled an accident.

It wasn't reported in the media until 6 days later -- and then only in one outlet, WaPo.

57. What a ridiculous poll!
"Yes" is the equivalent of agreeing that the evil "liberal media" is out to get the poor Bush White House.

"No" is the equivalent of agreeing that "everying's fine, move along, there's nothing to see here."

I'd have preferred a third answer: "No, I've come to expect the White House to avoid the facts until those rare, almost non-existent instances when the media holds their feet to the fire."

BTW, as I write this it was 71273 responses, 60% yes, 40% no.

76. It's a bit like another poll I saw
Do you support the legal tapping of phone calls between terrorists?

Yes or no?

Since it's never been about *legal* wiretaps, it's a useless question, a non-sequitor, *UNLESS* the goal is to portray "liberals" and "leftists" (which we now know is defined as anyone who utters a disparaging word about dear leader) as anti-American creeps who want to see the country attacked again and again.

The question should be, "Do you believe the President has the right to violate the constitution in order to defend it, and if so, what, exactly, is he defending, again?"
