Washington Reporters Press for Answers on Cheney's Misfire

NEW YORK Reporters at White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan's Monday morning press "gaggle" peppered him with questions about the 18-hour delay in any word emerging on Vice President Cheney's shooting incident in Texas on Saturday.

McClellan explained that the White House knew about the accidental shooting of a fellow hunter on Saturday night, but deferred to the vice president's office, which did not announce it. The vice president's office in turn deferred to Katharine Armstrong, the ranch owner in Texas where the shooting took place. She called a Corpus Christi reporter at midday Sunday and only then did the news come out.

...

In an online chat ongoing at the Washington Post site, the paper's White House reporter Peter Baker said reporters in D.C. are "flabbergasted" by the shooting.

"It sure woke up a lot of folks here in Washington on a quiet, snowy Sunday. Whether the story has legs I suppose remains to be seen." He said the delay question is "being asked a lot in Washington today...

9. Sounds like typical * Administration Communication
Exact same thing that happened with Katrina.

For a Party that so hates the government and wines and wines about the bureuacracy and red tape - the * administration has created more red tape and bureacracy than I have ever seen - and just for something as simple as a shooting incident.

Now our tax dollars are used so that Dick can tell Scotty so that Scotty can refer to Dick so that Dick can refer to the owner of a private ranch to relay this information to the local newspaper?

Good use of tax dollars!

press: so mr chaney, did you know that you shot him when,er,you shot him?

dick: let me make it perfectly clear about the "shooting incident", although I pulled the trigger, it was the shotgun that actually did the shooting...

press: wait a second, you are claiming that the shotgun was at fault??

dick: that's correct.

press: but doesn't this go completely against what one of your biggest supporters, the NRA, stand for?

dick: come again?

press: that it's not that guns kill people, it's that people kill people...

dick: whoa, whoa, who's talking about killing here?

press: you are saying the gun was at fault, not you...

dick: correct, but no one was killed.

press: but you are clearly blaming the gun, not your poor rifle skills.

dick: it's like this, when it's an accident, it's the guns fault.

press: but guns aren't capable of conscious thought...

dick: that's right.

press: but you are clearly blaming the rifle for your mistake.

dick: that's correct.

The reporter blinks in disbelief.

press: so it's the rifles fault.

dick: yup...

press to the camera: so there you have it folks, in bizarro land, the rifle wounded the man, not the VP...in other news the city of light is no more...
