Terra Alert: "Suspect Juice" forces store closure in Connecticut
Police: CVS finds suspect juice; store closed

Saturday, February 11, 2006; Posted: 3:42 p.m. EST (20:42 GMT)

DARIEN, Connecticut (AP) -- Bottles of fruit juice that appeared to be tampered with were found at the same drugstore where grape juice that sickened dozens of churchgoers last Sunday had been purchased, police said.

The bottles contained several brands and types of juice, and were found during an inventory check, police said Friday. The CVS store was shut down as a precaution, and other stores in the area were notified.

The discovery comes after 40 churchgoers at Calvary Baptist Church were sickened. Five people were sent to the hospital with nausea and vomiting after drinking the juice during a communion service, but nobody was seriously injured.

Investigators have ruled out arsenic and other common poisons, but said they have not conclusively identified the substance, other than to say it was not life-threatening. The latest tests have ruled out the use of a needle to inject the substance into the bottle or other tampering with the bottle, police said.

3. Maybe it was a God smackdown
Or a metaphor for the damage done to the church by repukes. Like Jeezus body and blood had become tainted.

5. Maybe
Maybe next time the Baptist won't be so pissy and will drink good wine instead of bad grape juice. ;)

8. I wonder what Pat Robertsons' take on this will be.
Obviously this is retribution for some horrible sin.
