back in the 80's Reagan did his treacly "Morning in America" and people were attracted to that 'optimism'. I put optimism in quotes because Reagan's saying 'Morning in America' was followed, in practical terms with, "Go Back to Sleep". Lulled into a false sense of security, Americans allowed the Media to regurgitate Republican lies and largely ignored Iran Contra, BCCI and the growing deficit and gap between rich/middle class. The 'Liberal Media' crap really got going during the 80's even as the Media was manifesting itself as the corporate-controlled mouthpiece it always was at heart.
Yeah, Bill Clinton bought us time. He beat back the Republican Juggernaut. In the end, with precious little support form his own party.
And Gore fought all the way to the SCOTUS, in the end with precious little support from his own party.
And Kerry fought the Republican juggernaut up til Ohio's corrupt election system made it clear Democracy and clean elections are caught in a Catch 22 (you need hard evidence of fraud to get the hard evidence that would prove fraud)... with precious little support from his own party's machinery.
Right now, we are just at the point where the sun is peeking over the hill. Katrina, Iraq, Spying on Americans, Outing Spies, Corruption. It's all slowly waking Americans up.
It's Morning in America. And my advice to Democrats running for office and IN office is use that phrase, but add to it.
It's Morning in America and it's TIME TO GET UP & GET TO WORK. Our Military, Infrastructure, Economy, School and Healthcare systems have all been beaten down and trashed by irresponsible leadership. We need to roll our collective sleeves up and start rebuilding America and its Middle Class.
People need a common sense of purpose. A challenge. A way to unite over the divisive voices trying to keep us apart.
It's Morning in America and the alarm clock is going off. It's time to get to work.
