Great stuff from George Clooney
"Clooney is sufficiently battle-hardened these days to shrug it off when people have a go at him. "I was at a party the other night and it was all these hardcore Republicans and these guys are like, 'Why do you hate your country?' I said, 'I love my country.' They said, 'Why, at a time of war, would you criticise it then?' And I said, 'My country right or wrong means women don't vote, black people sit in the back of buses and we're still in Vietnam. My country right or wrong means we don't have the New Deal.' I mean, what, are you crazy? My country, right or wrong? It's not your right, it's your duty. And then I said, 'Where was I wrong, schmuck?' In 2003 I was saying, where are the ties and al-Qaida? Where are the ties to 9/11? I knew it; where the fuck were these Democrats who said, 'We were misled'? That's the kind of thing that drives me crazy: 'We were misled.' Fuck you, you weren't misled. You were afraid of being called unpatriotic."

I love George Clooney. And not just because he's gorgeous. Really. :)

In another 10 years, his movies, for me, will be unwatchable in public..
One very beautiful, adorable man.

PS Sorry. Is that kind of talk inappropriate as a mod? ?

12. I must've missed that thread
because I would have agreed with you. Misled, my pasty, flabby ass.

When a poverty stricken old lady in an obscure town in flyover country knows so much more than an entire government seems to about an international situation, something is very, very wrong. Usually it means there is enough money to be made by men in that government that they don't mind telling a lot of bald faced lies and getting a lot of people killed. As long as the cash rolls in, they're peachy.

These men are WORTHLESS. I've said it before, if you approve of everything your government is doing, vote for the incumbents. If you hate what your government has been doing, vote the incumbents out of power.

It's quite simple, really. If you don't like the new government, vote them out, too.

15. Well you have too many democrats that think the 20 year plus
political career, extremely rich, fat-cat, blue blood, country club incumbents can do no wrong and we should all be united behind them. Even if they did vote for the war and they bent over and grabbed their ankles for the Alito hearings.

16. Clooney makes an excellent point about using humor.
"...and I said, 'Let me handle this one.' Because some of them tend to be heavy-handed. And I find that humour is a much better way to do it."

Clooney is quite sniffy about Moore, whose modus operandi he finds obnoxious and counter-productive. He uses his name as a verb - "I don't Michael Moore this shit," he says. "I don't come out and go, 'Look what these fuckers do.'" He thinks subtlety - class - gets better results. He is no doubt right, but it seems a little unfair given that dissent is a lot more palatable when it comes in the shape of George Clooney. His response to the traitor incident was to put together a montage of prominent people on the anti-war side, including the pope, Jimmy Carter, Nelson Mandela and Pat Buchanan (a hard-right commentator in the US) and drape the word "traitors" across them, too. "Then I made 800 fliers anonymously and sent them to everyone in the media. And I waited. And Dan Rather called me and said, have you seen this flier that's going around? And I said, 'My quote would be, the Pope and I can take it, but don't pick on Pat Buchanan.'" He grins. "You know, the truth is . . . it is not merely your right but your duty to question your government. You can't demand freedom of speech and then say, but don't say bad things about me. You gotta be a grown-up and take your hits."

Maybe it's time for another Irish Catholic president. But, perhaps not, we need his movies and him IN movies. He'd make a great governor or senator, as well.

19. great quote!
I wasn't even aware of DU (or any other 'alternate' media) and I was still against the Iraq invasion... I knew the hijackers were mostly Saudi, with a few Egyptians thrown in... Granted, I thought maybe some WMD would turn up by now (possibly planted) - but, I didn't think it was worth invading over.

24. Go George! Accentuate what is really the key issue
with Democrats - a lack of courage in the face of harsh criticism. George:loveya: is a real patriot to be proud of - standing tall (with an authentic spine)and speaking out early, clearly and often. :patriot:
