8. Paraphrasing. . .
Basically what I heard which was just the latter end of the conversation was that it was especially poignant that Carter spoke about *'s violation of the FISA regulations at CSK's funeral since Carter had signed them into law in '78.

Then Imus went on and on about how the JFK & RFK had ordered the wiretaps on MLK & CSK and how Ted Kennedy had to know about that which was totally irrelevant as that was long prior to the FISA regulations and they even weren't foreigners.

Imus constantly roasts and parodies Dems. He is a total egomaniac and is totally obnoxious. Listening is an infrequent guilty pleasure and I usually have NPR on at the same time.

11. Regarding the Kennedy involvement in the wiretapping ...
Edited on Fri Feb-10-06 07:47 AM by Zen Democrat
It was pushed by J. Edgar Hoover, who was reporting that King was involved with known Communists. Hoover scared Bobby Kennedy into approving the telephone taps, because Kennedy did not want to go too far out on a limb with King if Hoover was correct.

But the hotel buggings and physical surveillance was ALL J. Edgar Hoover.

The following piece from the LA Times by Nicholas Katzenbach (RFK's deputy at Justice, and successor AG) is a fair synopsis of the historical facts of this matter. I'm not a big fan of Katzenbach, and he blames Hoover's paranoia on his advanced age, which is totally wrong in my opinion, but it gives a broad overview of what happened.

Imus made it sound like the wiretapping of King was a Kennedy operation, when, in fact, it was a Hoover operation all the way. The Kennedys, just like everyone else in Washington at the time, were too afraid to cross old Edgar for the obvious reasons -- he had something on everybody.

4. talked a lot about the funeral. Blacks celebrate the life of the person
and did not see it as bad what was said-said maybe a few things he would have said differently but all and all ok.

5. He stood up for President Jimmy Carter's remarks adding
That it was Carter himself who signed the FISA law. But that nasty ass Imus went into a rant about how he hates Jimmy Carter.

I don't understand why so many republicans HATE Jimmy Carter. They are just filled with hate but unload their visciousness on some very beautiful people.

Ford did well, IMO.

13. I've determined that they hate President Carter because he is an intelli-
gent, decent man, a humanitarian which is something that they can't attain.

6. He said that you could not celebrate the life of Mrs. King
without discussing politics. He said that Rev. Lowery said all the things that Mrs. King believed in, she was against the war. He said everything Lowery said was true.

He also defended Carter when Imus was going on and on about how self serving Carter was. Imus said Carter should have said that it was the Kennedy administration who ordered the spying on the Kings. Ford brought up the fact that Carter was basically saying no matter who the President is, it is wrong and that it was Carter who signed in FISA court to prevent the government from overstepping its bounds.

I thought Ford handled Imus very well.

9. Ford is always very tactful, but, if you really listen, you'll
notice that he actually zings people with politeness.

I think sometimes people on this board don't see how effective Ford's "killing them with kindness" is, but he really does get some pops against Republicans in.

I can imagine how he handled this. Thanks for the summary.

Russia type thing when they cut the applaud to nine seconds and then Mort Kondracke, from FAUX told the his tv audience that the applauding was not nearly as long as it seemed as being there?
