A pack of angry Chihuahuas attacked a police officer who was escorting a teenager home after a traffic stop, authorities said.

The officer suffered minor injuries, including bites to his ankle, Detective Bill Veteran said.

The five Chihuahuas escaped the 17-year-old boy's home and rushed the officer in the doorway Thursday, authorities said. The teenager had been detained after the traffic incident.

The officer was treated at a hospital and returned to work less than two hours later.

1. I hate those alleged dogs
My grandpa had one of those miserable little things and everytime we went to visit, it jumped around and tried to nip my sister and I. So usually I'd try and smack it and grandpa would invariably holler at me about hitting his baby. Grandpa was ok, but not his dog. Yap yap yap all the time.

2. Over the years I have had dozens of dogs
and never got bitten. One time a student brought a chihuahua to class, I reached out to pet it and the damned freak bit straight through my right thumb. I was a mess for weeks.

3. The best part: no chihuahuas were tasered or shot during the incident.
:-)

You're right, I read this story in the paper and laughed out loud.

neighborhood dogs form a pack and run around the neighborhood. I remember there was always this little Chihuahua leading the pack (of german shepards, sheep dogs...etc). He would nip at the other dogs and keep them in line while they were running around. Definately the alpha male. I remember my brother and I thinking it was sooooo funny. Brazen little bastard he was.

7. Yes, they are tough little buggers!
Many years ago, a neighbor's Chihuahua came into my yard and kicked my beagle's ass. My dog was ripped up and needed to be stitched up at the vet. The local Animal Control officer got involved, and I was sort of shame-faced about the fact that my dog was beaten up by a Chihuahua, of all things. The Animal Control guy told me that the notion most people have of Chihuahuas being timid little things that sit shaking on a pillow is completely wrong. He said he's seen these dogs take down German Shepards -- their much smaller size works to their advantage with larger dogs in that they can "run all over the larger dog, like a buzzsaw". Get one with a nasty disposition, and it can be a holy terror.

8. I had a Chiuhauha fro 15 yrs. Best watchdog ever.
Fierce nature when strangers came around. She was quite the nipper. I would try to tell people not to try and pet her, but they would not listen. All they saw was this cute, tiny dog, then they would get a surprise! She never drew blood, but certainly earned respect. The only way to shut her up was to say the dogcatcher was coming, and for some reason, she would hide behind the sofa for an hour or so, quiet as a mouse. She became a legend with family and friends. They still recall the encounters.
