Reid or DNC should sue the AP for libel
No more of this bullshit. The AP, and the MSM in general, should get its fucking facts straight and stop trying to make the scandal "bipartisan" for the sake of faux-balance. Just because Bush and his cronies say its "bipartisan" doesn't make that so. When the MSM states something so blatantly false, especially the fact that Reid never even took a position on the Mariana's issue that reflected Abramoff's, then they should be held accountable. The only way to shut them up, or at least make them fear us, is to bring them to court. I do not believe that the 1st Amendment protects libel, correct me if I'm wrong.

1. Not a bad idea...
of course you have to prove the statement false, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

4. Exactly!

Free speech involves putting out JUST criticisms of officials. Libel involves putting out false incidents with the intent to HARM the person's reputation! And what is the intent of this article? It sure as hell isn't to help Reid! Just read the wording of it! They make it seem like Reid is in bed with Abramoff, when in fact he had distant correspondence with tribes that were represented by him (which is NOT illegal! There is also no proof that Reid took any money from Abramoff or did ANY favors for him, like Sen. Burns or Rep. Ney.)

6. I hear ya ...
... and I've been promoting this position for weeks.

Every time a news media type says that "Democrats also took Abramoff money", they should get a 'cease and desist' letter from the DLC's lawyers.

The letter would simply state that they STOP making this reference, or NAME NAMES.

Of course, if they name any names and are proven wrong (which they will be), they have now opened themselves, their networks, their producers, writers, etc. to a libel suit.

9. Though I Agree With The Sentiment, They Didn't Lie, They Just
left out some truth right? I'm not sure if that's accurate or not, but from what I've read on here so far I thought the problem was that they left out some pertinent details of fact that were important to the context, but didn't actually lie about details. If that's the case, is that still considered libel? (not really sure, I know writing a story with false information that is damaging can be grounds for libel, but I'm not sure about when something is just simply left out)

10. Well you could argue
that be omitting things to create a picture of what the situation is without the full truth, that that could be lying, at least that's how I feel about it.
