I hope Meet the Press had a small audience this morning
Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 11:07 AM by Armstead
Watching the New Year's edition of Meet the Pres encapsulated what's wrong with the dmn media these days.

A bunch of the familiar old pundits -- Doris Goodwin, Willim Safire, John Meacham, Eugene Robinson -- dicussing the year and looking ahead.

Although supposedly it was ideologically "balanced" it was merely the same old Conventional Wisdom coming out of them all.

John meacham refrred to Russ feingold as a "sane Howard Dean." The phrase "hard left" was repeated several times. Bush was p
No progressive voice -- nor a string liberal one -- to challenge any of this. The implication thus was that calling Howard Dean "crazy"is totally appropriate. That Bush is totally pure in his motives. That the war in Iraq may be a positive historic turning point....blah,blah,blah.

It was why politics and much more has become so osified. Nothing outside of a very narrow spectrum of opinion coming out of Beltway Elitists.

5. The so-called liberals were in the tank
John meacham did his "decent guy" schtick, but in the process came acros like a Bush toady. Doris Goodwin and Eugen Robinson were the closest to liberal, but they too were just going with the flow of Conventinal Wisdom.

They were lacking even a Tom Oliphant or a E.J. Dionne

17. Paid toadies
Goodwin, et al have never represented anything other than their own personal interest. They're just going along with the party in power to ensure they have an income.

I was just complaining about this to my SO.

Wasn't that just an *uplifting* edition? Didn't we just learn a lot..?

:eyes:

I finally hit the mute button.

6. The problem, is that they help to set the agenda
I wish we could ignore it as the putrid swamp that it is. Unfortunately, they're the ones who shape larger perceptions, so they can't be ignored.

One ultra rt wingythingy
One ABC retread r/w
one NPR non committal
No progressive voice at all.
The visual media has, indeed, recovered their poise and thrown back in with the criminals. Sick ...mindless...soulless...
I can't help it. It takes at least three of these worthless crapheads to be worth one real human being. I am soo disgusted.

8. This Week is much better today.
Lots of plain talk about Iraq, and questioning whether we're getting the truth. Much better than Lil' Tim and his fawners.

14. This Week actually talking about NSA eavesdropping and ...
the extraordinary visit to Ashcroft's hospital bed to get wiretap approval after Comey refused to approve it.

Maybe because Stephanopolos is off today.

10. Watched only half of it. Made me want to gag...
"Hard left" over and over again. Sheesh! The whole thing sounded like a Bush admiration society meeting.

I had the feeling they had all got the call from someone in the WH to talk up the "genius" of our Great Leader. Sickening! :puke:

a lively debate between the right... and the farther right. How about Howard Zinn and Cornel West v. William Safire and Robert Novak? I'll start holding my breath.

13. That terrible putz Safire
told a story of how he was on a panel with hillary. Of course, it was uncomfortable for him since he had valled her a 'congenital liar' and so made everybody laugh by saying that he really meant to say 'congenial lawyer'. Ha ha ha.

Meanwhile, why doesn't anyone ask him why these liars who are running the show now are not evocative of his characterization? Of course we all know the answer to that question.

16. Trying to make hard right POV seem centrist
No matter the position of public opinion and conventional wisdom, they always keep trying to move the center to the hard right.

We Dems are becoming better and better at redefining the center. I'm counting on us being able to have continued success in 2006.

BTW, they all seemed to be shaking in their boots, until pumpkinhead gave his rah-rah optimism speech at the end.

Sorry GOP media, the party will really be over in 2006.

24. To his credit, Safire did come out against that
Safire is one of those stopped clocks that's occasionally right.

he did bring up the wiretap issue and came out against the practice, even though it was sandwiched between a defense of the Iraq war.

The rest of them just addressed the subject in a vry tepid way. "Usually dureing a war the chief executive sometmes goes a little too far..."
