Brown University Poll: Chafee in deep trouble
Two Democrats are making a move on incumbent Republican Senator Lincoln Chafee, Sheldon Whiteside and Matt Brown:

Chafee 38%
Brown 36%

The previous poll Chafee had been ahead 41-18

Chafee: 40%
Whiteside: 34%

Previous poll had Chafee ahead 38-25

This is a seat that must be won if Dems are to win back the US Senate. I don't care if Chafee is a "moderate" Republican--he is still an enabler for Bush. Oh sure he voted against Alito, but took forever to announce his decision--if he had announced early and used his influence on people like Collins and Snowe--maybe I would have had some respect for the guy, but he decided to wait until he was sure that Alito was in no jeapardy. Goodbye, Chafee!

2. Jim Langevin was the strongest challenger but he was forced...
out do to his anti-abortion views.

This seat is a MUST win for the Dems.

3. Brown is doing well
Almost as well as Langevin would have done.

4. They say Brown is the one making the big strides. Is he the Sec of State?

5. Dems are in the best spot they've been in for years
because Chafee has morphed from a typical, moderate New England pubbie into a rubberstamp for the neocons and wingnuts. I don't know what they've got on him, but it must be something really bad, because they've been able to coerce a lot of votes that he'd never have made a few years ago.

Personally, I think most pubbies are vulnerable, but DLC candidates aren't the ones who have a chance of unseating them, even if the district tends to be conservative. People who are paying even minimal attention (and those are the people who VOTE) are getting anything between slightly worried and outright angry at the shenanigans going on in Washington. They want a change. The DLC offers business as usual.

I sincerely hope Chaffee is retired. I hope a lot of incumbents are retired. I'd be really thrilled if they all got retired. Then maybe the ones left would realize thay can't keep doing what they've been doing for the last few years and expect to keep their cushy jobs.

6. I'm sick of this "Chafee is a moderate" bullsh*t
He's a Republican, and he helps put the Republicans in the majority, and helps elect people like Trent Lott and Dr. Fristenstein as Senate leaders, and Chafee also helps put Republican majorities in each of the committees thereby squashing any and all Democratic initiatives and paving the way for an incessant right wing agenda in the U.S. Senate. Yeah some "moderate". Vote all of them OUT of office, and replace them with "moderate" Democrats. Chafee, Collins, Snowe. Get rid of all of them.
