EXCLUSIVE EMAILS: Jack Abramoff Describes Relationship With President Bush

ThinkProgress has obtained emails written by Jack Abramoff in which the fallen lobbyist personally describes his relationship with President Bush. They describe a relationship far more extensive than has been previously reported.

The emails written by Abramoff were addressed to Kim Eisler, the national editor of Washingtonian magazine. The Washingtonian recently reported on the existence of several photographs showing Abramoff and Bush together. Eisler is also the author of Revenge of the Pequots, a book about tribal politics for which Abramoff was interviewed.

...

Abramoff emailed Eisler about his invitation to Crawford and his decision not to attend:

NO, IT WAS THAT I WOULD HAVE HAD TO TRAVEL ON SATURDAY (SHABBOS). YES, I WAS INVITED, DURING THE 2004 CAMPAIGN. IT WAS SATURDAY AUGUST 9, 2003 AT THE RANCH IN CRAWFORD.

The White House has continually downplayed the relationship between Abramoff and President Bush. At a January 26 press conference, President Bush said “You know, I, frankly, don’t even remember having my picture taken with the guy. I don’t know him.”

But according to Abramoff, the two have met almost a dozen times, shared jokes, and spoke about details of Abramoff’s family:

HE HAS ONE OF THE BEST MEMORIES OF ANY POLITICIAN I HAVE EVER MET. IT WAS ONE IF (sic) HIS TRADEMARKS, THOUGH OF COURSE HE CAN’T RECALL THAT HE HAS A GREAT MEMORY! THE GUY SAW ME IN ALMOST A DOZEN SETTINGS, AND JOKED WITH ME ABOUT A BUNCH OF THINGS, INCLUDING DETAILS OF MY KIDS. PERHAPS HE HAS FORGOTTEN EVERYTHING. WHO KNOWS.

You know, I swear the corporate media hacks read our stuff - and over time it is going to spill out of their mouths even as they cling to their reichwing talking points, the truth will overcome...

:kick:

On Edit: I tried the ThinkProgress link a second time and it popped right up - I still think their site is 'mainstream enough' that corporate media is peeking...

10. Emails the White House scrubbed? (missing from Fitzgerald investigation)
Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 03:19 PM by Angry Girl
Do you think there are any incriminating emails still laying around the White House computers? Somehow I don't think so.

Emails MISSING from White House computers! (Fitzgerald investigation)
Last week, Media Matters for America documented how most media outlets failed to report that special counsel Patrick J. Fitzgerald, the lead prosecutor in the CIA leak case, wrote -- in a letter to defense attorneys for former vice presidential chief of staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby -- that numerous White House emails from 2003 are missing from White House computer archives.

A further review by Media Matters has found that most major media outlets have continued to ignore this story; specifically, no reports on the missing emails have been found on any of the three major broadcast networks (ABC, NBC, and CBS), The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, or the Reuters wire service.

Yeah, and Bill didn't know Monica either. If it's good enough to bring impeachment proceeding's against one, it's good enough for the other.

38. Am I the only one that thinks this won't amount to a hill of beans?
It's not unlike his connection to Kenny boy Lay. Amuricans just don't give a damn.

Lets see what he's gotten away with....

* goes AWOL
* snorts coke
* ignores PDB
* reduces probes into Bin Laden
* reads a children's book while we are attacked
* allows Bin Laden family members to leave the US
* screws up the victory in Afghanistan
* lies about WMD
* starts an illegal war
* screws up said illegal war
* appoints incompetent cronies
* plays guitar while Katrina hits and kills thousands
* never vetos a spending bill
* destroys environmental regulations
* plays footsie with the Saudis
* approves illegal wiretaps and lies about it

And the list goes on and on.

Why should rubbing elbows with a corrupt lobbyist matter?

49. This is the one the American people can understand
This is the "I didn't have sex with that woman" moment for Bush. People who voted for him believe he is honest and would not lie; they may think he is stupid but not dishonest (even about WMD's--"oh, he just didn't know")

But this is so easy to get and understand. He clearly denied knowing Abramoff with whom he eveidently was pretty good friends.

This is the simple thing that will get to the American people.
