Selective Trashing of the Constitution and Civil Rights

If I heard correctly yesterday, AG Gonzales implied that the information gathered through questionable or illegal wiretaps would be held for who knows how long, even if the taps did not provide anything productive and or lead to any further investigation. I believe that is what he implied.

Now, do you remember this?:

“The Bush administration moved on Thursday to sharply restrict the amount of time that gun purchasers' instant-background check records can be kept by the government.

In a decision assailed by gun-control advocates as a gift to the National Rifle Association, Attorney General John Ashcroft said the administration would propose that such records be held for just one business day after a sale.”

The argument at the time, 2003, was that it would be helpful to know if terrorist were buying firearms. It seems as if some parts of the Constitution are more equal than others.
