93. You're right. Iran poses NO nuclear threat. It amazes me that
people here would fall for that old story again.

I've been trying to educate myself about the bourse.

Here's some very good articles I found. About the bourse, fiat currency, why the feds are no longer going to report the M3 money index as of March 26(?). How convenient, since the bourse is set to go about the end of March. And how it all ties together.

A Story About Oil You NEED To Hear
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2005/12/27/115725/53

I guess the following site is Libertarian. Nevertheless, the articles are great at tying together the bourse and US monetary policy. Gives you the whole picture.

Note: Third article title says "Iraq", but the second half deals with Iran.

39. I'd like to see them try it in an election year.
They want it (deep down, at least the warmongers do, in order to keep their "packages" nice 'n' hard) and they'll need it if they're to have any numbers of troops available beyond the ones they've squandered in Iraq. But even if I thought it were necessary, I wouldn't have the stomach to put that out there in an election year, unless I was planning not to return to Capitol Hill next January. Maybe AFTER January, unless OUR guys take back the House. But I'd seriously doubt it now. WITH WHAT TROOPS? WITH WHAT FUNDING? So we'll have to go fight ANOTHER war when we've completely fucked up the current one - that they insist is not over yet. How thin do they intend to stretch our troops - and then accuse us of not supporting them because we don't want to see them sent out to be killed?

42. Because this is an election year is PRECISELY why they would do it
They know that as soon as the bombs start flying, and we're treated to the CNN/MSGOP/Faux coverage of the latest techno version of the video game "World Conquest" the pResidents approval ratings will go from 33% to 70%. Dems will once again have to temper what they say because "you don't criticize the pResident when we're at war". Rove's got to be chuckling at the prospect of Ted Kennedy having to get up and praise the pResident for his bold action. Then we'll all get in line to "Support the Troops", cause don't you know? "You're with us or agin us"

Meanwhile, a sufficient number of American's will be transfixed by the grainy, slightly green colors and the explosions of flashing lights, and the "breathless" CNN reporters watching the pretty starburst in the sky. Hell! It's better than a Super Bowl Commercial.

In fact, I'd be shocked if they didn't launch war with Iran this year.

79. I think they'll wait til after the midterms & play chicken just like 2002.
It's going to be almost an exact repeat as Iraq, except this time they'll get their UN Security Council rejection first. Then they'll go to Congress in September or October, talking about the "grave threat" Iran poses, how we must stand tough against these state sponsors of terror seeking weapons of mass destruction. It's a game of chicken in an election year and unfortunately, I fear there are still too many Dems in Congress who fear they would lose their seat by looking weak on security. Expect the bombings to commence in late November/early December.

But I'm not sure they make sense. Look at it from their point of view - if they wait until the next election, and lose, they'll never get a chance to have another war. And Cheney has been planning too long to stop an Iran War now.

We're also talking about:

- oil prices through the roof

- Iran attacking the soldiers next door in Iraq (and they'd be justified in doing so, damn the administration for making me say that!)

- world anger exploding

- possible sanctions and other moves against the U.S., which will impact you and me and not the billionaires and power elite

- a total clusterfuck nightmare

So, election gains? Not as important to consider, I think.

88. I agree with all that, excellent thoughts. I was considering the timing,
because they perhaps couldn't fast enough/before the elections (here I am optimistic, if you can use such a word in this case).
And if the elections changed Congress, the whole ballgame would change -- funding, investigations, and much, much more.

With all that you've mentioned, how could they really get very far with this scheme?
I'm pretty much dumbstruck that they'd really be serious.
But, you know... they underestimate me,and I probably underestimate them.

23. CALL JACK MURTHA'S OFFICE 1-888-818-6641
1-888-818-6641 Capitol Switchboard

He's the ONLY person in Congress with a resolution to redeploy troops out of Iraq. Let him know you support his efforts.

Wednesday February 1, 2006
The Honorable George W. Bush
President of the United States of America
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington DC 20500

Dear Mr. President,

This March will mark the beginning of the 4th year of the war in Iraq. In contrast, U.S. involvement in WWI came to an end after 19 months. Victory in Europe was declared in WWII after 3 years 5 months. In the Korean War, a cease-fire was signed after 3 years and 1 month. But after more than three and a half years into the war in Iraq, your administration finally produced what is called a "Plan for Victory" in Iraq.

Iraq is not the center for the global war on terrorism. I believe Iraq has diverted our attention away from the fight against global terrorism and has depleted the required resources needed to wage an effective war. It is estimated that there are only about 750 to 1,000 al-Qaeda in Iraq. I believe the Iraqis will force them out or kill them after U.S. troops are gone. In fact, there is now evidence that Iraqi insurgent groups are increasingly turning against al-Qaeda and other foreign terrorists.

Redeploy, Replace, Reallocate, and Reconstitute.

Use of force against Iran is on agenda, warns bullish Rumsfeld
MARGARET NEIGHBOUR

AMERICAN military action against Iran because of its nuclear ambitions is still an option,
US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has warned.

With Iran remaining defiant in the face of international pressure over its atomic programme -
it yesterday ended snap United Nations inspections of its atomic sites - Mr Rumsfeld upped the stakes,
describing Iran as a "main sponsor" of terrorist groups.

Mr Rumsfeld, who attended a weekend security conference in Munich, Germany, made no bones
about the seriousness of the situation.

"All options - including the military one - are on the table," he told a German newspaper.

From another thread:

UNITED NATIONS — Russia's foreign minister warned against threatening Iran over its nuclear program Monday after Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld reportedly agreed with a German interviewer that all options, including military response, remained on the table.

63. Good point - Invading Iran might mean real casualties
Iran would be a lot different from Iraq.

They are a bigger country and our military is depleted.

Please don't take my subject as disregarding the loss of 2300? American troops and tens of thousands of Iraqis. It's just that invading Iran would involve the loss of many more of our fine young men and women.

However, if we can create an army that consists solely of Young Republican club members, that would be all right, so long as we pay for it with bake sales and raffles.

57. That's a Big Assumption
I mean about the UN calling for military action, the will do it the same way they did with Iran. They will just launch an air attack, and then the Iranians will defend themselves by launching
pre-emptive strikes on all US military facilities in the Gulf Region.

With the US as the aggressor, NATO is not required to provide any assistance to the US. Blair will not send in British troops, and the Iraqi army may prove to be a dagger at the US's back.

77. Agreed - we ARE talking about the army...
...that accepts weapons, training, and intelligence from the U.S. military, then turns it back on the invaders.

Plus, Sistani. And Shia Muslims in Iraq.

Anyone thinking this won't end in the decimation of our military - or in a nuclear exchange - isn't paying attention. The uprising of Shia in Iraq alone could overwhelm U.S. forces.

to attack Iran. I'll bet money on it. If he did, Bush would decimate the US force, Iraq would join the Shia in Iran and we would overrun. There is a no win scenario for Bush. We won't attack.

As to your first point re my assumption, both China and Russia have already said that they would veto ANY military action in Iran.

41. These guys are unbelievable
They are so arrogant, so blinded by whatever end goal they have...

I have never heard them address a serious military attack on US soil

I am not talking about remote terrorist I am talking a full scale military attack by...I don't know Russia, Iran, North Korea....

I am talking about other countries artillary and military boots on US soil. Our military is broken and spread out around the world. Our state military guard and reservist are being destroyed as we speak...Are our police departments supposed to defend against a military attack..As each day passes we are losing our allies by the way side. We will be on our own!!

These War mongers are so short sighted and so arrogant they actually believe no one will attack the US.

Catastrophic failures can be fixed by compounding them with another. Two wrongs may not make a right, but two colossal f'ups equal success.

Henny penny.

86. Connecticut military police called up for Germany--leave Feb.12
http://www.courant.com/news/local/hc-06121124.apds.m0736.bc-ct-brf--feb06,0,6909892.story?coll=hc-headlines-local

WESTBROOK, Conn -- About 120 military police officers from the Connecticut National Guard have been called up for service in Germany, the military announced Monday.

The members of the 643rd Military Police Company of Westbrook have been told they will be gone for about 18 months.

They are scheduled to leave Feb. 12 for Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., for training before heading to Germany. The MPs provide police service, convoy escorts, a force protection.

A formal send-off will be held Wednesday at the state Armory.

About 500 soldiers from New Haven's 102nd Infantry Battalion are currently in training for deployment to Afghanistan. There are 46 soldiers from state guard units in Iraq.

Lt. Col. John Whitford said he expects to have about 1,000 Connecticut guardsmen in the Middle East by this summer.
