1. And he won't let a silly thing like the constitution
Get in the way of his client doing what he wants to do.

I like how Bush likes to say he took an oath to protect the American people, when he really took an oath to protect the constitution.

12. No shit!!! What the hell is this, "bush is my client"
No, that's not how it works.

This is not how things are supposed to be.

And its exactly why the Administration cannot be trusted, and should be put under oath every time they speak before congress or as a part of any investigation.

They don't consider themselves accountable to the people.

5. and his 'client'
seems to need a lot of defending from that nosy Congress representing the American people.

The job description of the Attorney General seems to have different interpretations.

9. Is he still advising Bu$h on personal issues? Did he just inadvertently
step in a big ol' pile of Bu$hit without realizing it? Or is he just that dumb not to remember his recent loyalty promotion?

24. I called his office and get them what fer..
Said the Gonzo had been running interference for idiot son since back in Texas.. Corporate lawyers' jobs are to craft "workarounds" for those pesky regulations and laws... He's still doing the same thing..
(I got the feeling that I wasn't the first to raise a stink about exactly who his "client" is.. We may hear something from Schumer tomorrow)

15. He's right. He was acting as the White House Council and that...
Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 05:22 PM by mikelewis
attorney/client priviledge extends even into his new position as AG. So yes, he is both.

On Edit: It is for this very reason that a special prosecutor needs to empanel a grand jury to investigate whether or not a crime has been committed.

17. Bush thinks everybody works for him.
He is an elected official. He is supposed to work for us.

History will view him as the single biggest fuck-up to ever be president.

19. Thing is, they aren't really winning.
We, as a country are losing, and so are they. They just don't realize it yet.

True about history, though. Bush didn't learn a lesson from that one dictator about taking on too many fronts.

22. Here's what DU'er onenote has to say in another thread about this:
During his confirmation hearing, the issue of the different roles played by the White House Counsel and the AG came up. Here's what Gonzo said then:

"There is a difference in the position of counsel to the president and as attorney general of the United States. As counselor to the president, my primary focus is on providing counsel to the White House and to the White House staff and the president. I have a very limited staff. The staff doesn't have the expertise or the experience in a great many substantive legal issues. All those are decided in the Department of Justice. I do have a client who has an agenda, and part of my role as counselor is to provide advice so that the president can achieve that agenda lawfully. It's a much different situation as attorney general, and I know that. My first allegiance is going to be to the Constitution and the laws of the United States."

.
.

Remarkable, isn't it?

23. I thought this was discussed ad nauseum with Clinton
and at that time it was decided that the White House council is an employee of the government and DOES NOT represent the President in a private client sort of way. I think Clinton made all the same arguments during Lewinsky and it was denied. So which is it? One way for a Democratic President and another way for a Republican President? I've googled this before when this has come up in discussion, I just don't have the energy tonight. Also, isn't that one reason that when Plame broke, the President ran out and got himself a PRIVATE CRIMINAL ATTORNEY? They just make up whatever new rules suit their purpose in the middle of each and every game.

This administration does not want ANY oversight or even knowledge by the American public of what ever it is they do in their dim dark corridors of power - and why do you think that is? BECAUSE IT WILL NOT STAND UP TO EVEN THE SLIGHTEST SCRUTINY!!!!!
Occam's razor - they hide things because they have things to hide.
