A progressive confesses, seeks absolution.
I bought two pairs of athletic shoes that were made in China yesterday, from a store whose workers weren't unionized (they were obviously also quite miserable. Seriously the guy who "helped" me made Al Bundy look like a sweetheart.)

I'm sorry for that. But I really really needed athletic shoes.

What can I do to absolve my guilt?

1. Save up some pennies
and buy a bicycle made in America.

Look at Burley, they are not horribly expensive, and their frames have a lifetime warranty. They are an employee owned company, IIRC.

Then wear out your slave labor shoes on a bicycle frame built by an American welder, and feel smug that every mile you pedal takes a bullet out of the clip of a terrorist.

I know what you mean, though.

2. It's really
quite hard to get some of the modern amenities while still trying to shop 'progressively'. You can't really find good shoes made in America or from unionized labor these days. I've been guilty of running into WalMart on occasion myself. And the reason is, there is no other place to turn.

Well, I'm a Catholic so I can help you. Feel bad for a few weeks, then say 10 Hail Marys and go on with your life. But never stray too far from the guilt.

3. I sympathize with you, it's becoming harder to find products
made in America.

You have confessed to DU...donate some of your old clothes and goods to a charity. That's what I do.
