To Democratic Party candidates, a message from Skidmore
I'm certain that all of you think you can deliver good leadership for the nation. The other thing I'm certain of is that you are all political creatures. I want to give you a heads up on what I'm considering in terms of a candidate this election, and I believe that there a many others who think likewise. I'm putting you on notice.

First, I am looking for an authentic voice for my concerns and someone who is not afraid to do real work over posturing. I know political doublespeak when I hear it and listened to a good share of it last election. I crossed my fingers, hoping that the candidate would do right by the people once elected and cast my vote.

The last election was also the last time I do that. I will not waste my vote on someone besotted with the notion of power and political theatrics. If you cannot address the concerns of my family and friends in a commonsense manner and without fancy slogans and gimmicks, I will not take you seriously. In plain Skidmore language that means "Stop with the bullshit." If you don't have anything to say beyond buzzwords and have not intention to do more than posture for the cameras, respect your fellow citizens and drop out now.

Do not think that we cannot understand when you play us for suckers. You will not get a free pass because you have a "D" behind your name. And you will not get my vote if you cannot speak truth or if you are not willing to speak truth to power without a liberal sprinkling weasel words and knowing winks and nods.

You will not get my vote if you do not address the horror that is this war and the lies that started it. You will not get my vote if you attempt to keep in place the irresponsible, unfettered free trade claptrap that has brought financial ruin to this nation and its people. You will not get my vote if you do not address the selling of America to the cheapest bidder. You will not get my vote if you do not stand for the worker, the poor, the disabled, women, children, and minority concerns. You will not get my vote if you do not take active steps to protect my vote.

I have had a belly full of American Idol politics. Don't bring that to my door and tell me you give a damn about what goes on with me and mine as you tapdance and mug for the cameras. Get out there and get real. Get your hands dirty with the masses. Quit playing to the few in the box seats and start paying attention to the huge number sitting on the floor and in the nosebleed seats. That translates into votes and small dollars combined become many, if you are prepared to drag out the old saw about the need to raise money. If you speak truth, the people will listen. You will also gain my support.

3. I concur
What's more important, your political career or the lives that will be lost if you do not stop this war now? If it's the former, you are not my candidate, and you do not fit my definition of an American. If it's the latter, dammit, make your stand now!

Congressmen act like it's a hard decision. WTF? Look at the consequences. If we stay longer, nothing will change except the number of dead. But, if we bring home our troops now, hundreds, maybe thousands of kids will get to hug their dads and moms when they come home instead of mourn them in a flag-draped casket. If that decision is too hard to make, then what in the hell are you doing running for office anyway?

4. Bravo!
"Get your hands dirty with the masses."

Just ask the folks in New Orleans about this one. Or former steel workers. Or homeless children. Or twenty-two year olds struggling with $75,000 worth of college loan debt.

So many politicians have used talking points over substance, photo ops over real progress. It`s up to conscientious voters to say...."Enough. Give me something real or forget it."

6. Well said, but
I am afraid that when it comes to November 08 I will vote for the candidate with the D behind his or her name even if the candidate runs toward the middle in the general election and takes a few stands that I disagree with. These times are too fricking scary to not support the Democratic party candidate in 08.

10. I love the 'American Idol Politics'. EVERYTHING is 'American Idolized' these days.
You don't 'earn' your spot these days, we're ALL REALLY TALENTED but just haven't been discovered.

11. American Idol Politics is what has brought about this disasterous
state of affairs in the world and our nation. American Idol politics is getting people killed by the thousands, reducing great numbers to subsistence levels of living, tearing the substance from our schools, and turning the nation's back to the plight of the ill and the elderly. You do not have to be a personality with a cult following to contribute to society. This nation needs to quit perpetually electing the prom court.
