More Jurors on Standby in CIA Leak Trial
By Matt Apuzzo
The Associated Press

Friday 19 January 2007

Washington - A federal judge is putting more potential jurors on standby in the CIA leak trial because so many people have been dismissed, mostly because of strong feelings against the Bush administration and the Iraq war.

U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton had hoped to have a 12-person jury picked Thursday so opening statements could be held Monday. After three days of hearings, however, Walton did not even have a pool of 36 impartial people from which to choose the final jury. He pushed opening statements back to Tuesday.

You just have to laugh. Libby's trial is getting shaken up because they can't find enough people to fill a jury pool who don't spit when they hear his former boss's name. In all of DC, there aren't 36 people who aren't riddled with disdain and ire for Bush.

Talk about a tainted jury pool. This is the best poll I've ever seen. 36 people. Jesus.

Can't find thirty-six people who DON'T hold objections to Bush or the Iraq War? And this is JUST in the D.C. area? Wow. What's even better? They don't dare file for a change of venue!

This is Priceless. Thanks for sharing. :)

3. Not even 36 people
Washington, DC has a large black population and Washington insiders, neither of whom it seems have a high opinion of Bush.

THe feeling of doom must be closing in on the Libby team.

4. At this point, anyone who isn't hostile to Cheney is unrepresentative of DC
There are some ditto-heads living in Washington, but not many. Seems they're desperately trying to find some to pack the jury.

7. This is bad news, because they are selecting a pro-Bush/Cheney jury
Jury tampering.

11. My thoughts and fears as well. And we have probably
more questionable judges than at any time in our history.

8. I just wonder....
if these jurors are being dismiissed as quickly for their support of the Bush administration, as they are for their feelings against it?

10. Another solution..... hold the trial in Baghdad, perhaps in the
Sunni dominated areas. Should get a fairly balanced group of people.

13. interesting....libby`s lawyers are dismissing
jurors because they are against bush and the war which libby had nothing to do with. the real issue is protecting cheney because they know what fitzgerald is going to do-get cheney on a perjury charge. it is classic fitzgerald move and they are doing their best to stop it...good luck in washington dc.
