Janet Reno: Judges Are Unfit To Question Clinton - They Should "Defer To President's Will"
Edited on Wed Jan-17-07 10:44 AM by LynneSin
You know, I'm reading that story on the home page and wonder what the media's reaction would be if Janet Reno said something identical about Clinton's presidency similiar to what Gonazales has said about Bush.

Could you imagine the outrage if Janet Reno said something simliar to what Gonzales is saying now about Bush?

2. The right eschews "moral relativism" .. so, OF COURSE they'd support that.

6. Apparently, They Don't
They only SAY they eschew moral relativism. A term, by the way, that i think rates at the top of my meaningless concept list.

8. I agree.
That's one of those terms, like judicial activism, that doesn't really mean anything. They get thrown around a lot, but no one ever seems to publicly ask what they mean. Kind of like 'support the troops.' No one has ever told me what it means to support the troops, so how am I supposed to decide if it's something I should do?

10. Actually, There Is No Such Thing
In fact, it is SOOOOOOO silly because there is no such thing. All morality is relative. Killing an intruder to save your family's lives is different than killing someone for their wallet, because the circumstances make it RELATIVELY different. Therefore, morality is never absolute. And even the drones who use that term and claim moral absolutism don't believe it, because they're always those that say "the bible doesn't say 'Thou Shall Not Kill' but 'Thou Shall Not Murder'" They have set up the proof that there is no absolute, so morality MUST be relative.

7. That's right.
Just remember, it's not terrorism, fascism, & c. when we do it. Of course, as Professor Chomsky notes, if we are even going to pretend to be serious about morality, we will apply the same, if not more stringent, standards to ourselves than we apply to others. But then, in politics you don't even have to pretend to be serious about morality.

9. No, you have to understand their moral absolutes
It isn't illegal if a right wing tyrant does it.

4. oh, my....
I love this post. Yes, you can be assured that CNN and MSNBC and the networks would feature a nonstop cast of Republicans rending their garments and demanding Reno's resignation. The venom would be extraordinary.

Today, this will pass with hardly a whisper in the MSM. You can bet on it.
