Philly Attorney Caught Naked in Court House with His 14 yr old Goddaughter
http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070116/NEWS/70116070

PHILADELPHIA — A criminal defense lawyer was arrested after a sheriff's deputy found him naked with a 14-year-old girl in a courthouse conference room, authorities said today.

A sheriff's deputy making his rounds in the Criminal Justice Center on Monday afternoon looked into a lawyers' conference room on the third floor and discovered Charles and the girl, Bagnell said.

"He had asked for sex. But there was no physical contact we're aware of" by the time the deputy arrived on the scene, Bagnell said.

Charles' law license was suspended following his no-contest plea in September 1990 to tampering with public records. Prosecutors alleged he and several others filed false wage claims while they worked for a youth program under contract with the city between 1986 and 1988.

I saw this on the late night news tonight and haven't been able to find any written articles yet that cover the new information that was reported in the broadcast. Charles brought his 14 year old Goddaughter to the court house (closed for the MLK holiday but open to attorneys and other employees), and closed himself up in a conference room with her and put a chair in front of the door. He took off all his clothes and asked her if she would have sex with him. She said "no", and he then proceeded to masturbate in front of her.

This is all sickening enough in itself, but what really disgusts me is this is not the first time he's been "caught with his pants down" with a minor. Two previous complaints of similar nature were formally filed against him which were dropped do to a supposed lack of evidence. A third complaint had been dismissed by a judge for some unknown reason (the broadcast gave no further information on that one).

If I recall, at least one of the previous incidents were concerning the same minor girl... I don't remember the specifics of what was said about the minor girl(s) in the other cases.

How is it that this creep had all these similar complaints against him along with a history of disbarrment and nobody thought to investigate him? How is it that this guy has been able to continue to practice with a TRAIL of complaints behind him regarding serious allegations of similar behavior with minor girls???

I'd bet cash money that this freak was a known offender and the whole reason the deputy who caught him this time went to check what was going on with him and the girl in that room for just that reason.

And where the hell are her parents??? How in the world can this guy have several similar formal public complaints against him at least one of which may have involved the same minor girl and her parents saw no giant red flag waving in front of them???

This shit makes me sick.

1. It could be that the guy's judge was protecting
a fellow pedophile. Never know these days. They are in every walk of life. IMO, they should all be locked away for life.

4. More likely a fellow attorney....

The first place I would look for criminals in a courthouse would be the judges bench and the counselors desks. Then look at the sheriff and his deputies. The people who enforce "the law" in this country seem to believe that it shouldn't apply to them or their families.

In my county there was a case of a Sheriff's daughter who was a known a public meth dealer. Everyone in this county associated with meth has gone to jail but her. She eventually died of an overdose. The GOP asshats who run the county keep electing her dad to public office though.

Other shenanigans, and abuse by the DA, the judges and sheriff's office hits the paper with great regularity. Everyone seems to get passed off on ever thing each time. Small wonder.

edit:spelling.

3. Attorneys are loathe to investigate, much less prosecute each other.
We've certainly seen that in N.C. in the Duke case. How long did it take before any legal authority took steps to stop Nifong?

Attorneys, in general, protect each other. They're members of the club.

6. Doctors do too
and politicians of all stripes. It seems like people above a certain income level give each other a lot of immunity.

7. and more comes out...

Charles billed the agency for 30 hours - for a total of about $98 - claiming he was with juvenile defendants under his care when he was not.

In one 1988 incident, he claimed he was playing basketball with three juveniles under his supervision at a time when he was in custody on charges of assaulting his wife.

Apparently, he's also a wife beater. All this and they gave his license to practice back.
:grr:

8. Whoa! Sounds like a typical sick hypocritical republican M.O. But who knows, though I'll bet....
Whether republican or not he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent.

9. if a previous complaint was filed (and then dropped) involving
this girl - who is *now* only 14 (so earlier complaint means she was probably younger then) - it would suggest that her parents were aware of the guys potential for inappropriate sexual behavior. Why in the world would they let her be alone with him?

Ugly story. :-(

10. It looks like he's represented the rapper, "Ol' Dirty Bastard"
<snip>

19/12/99 - The one where he'd rather be on the road

It is decided that ODB will return to New York under police custody to face charges of possessing crack cocaine.

The rapper's lawyer, Larry Charles, tells reporters that the star is still being held in Philadelphia, and extradition proceedings will be waived. Once in New York the rapper will also face charges of making terrorist threats, driving without a license and failing to pay child support. Charles admits that Bastard is "rather sad" about his present situation and "would rather be on the road somewhere, rapping."

Charles also said that he'd told Bastard he was unlikely to get a long sentence: "I told him, 'There's no murder charge here. So even if you lose all these cases, you'll still get out as a young man'."

11. If he was a soldier in Iraq, he'd be hailed as a hero
for the Repukes ... there's a precedent ... and this guy let the girl and her family live ... and the victim would be deemed a "woman" (as opposed to Clinton attacking a "young girl" in 22-year-old Monica Lewinsky) ...

"He was afraid the judge would be too harsh about that," Jones' lawyer Larry Charles told the Daily News, "So it's not a matter of him escaping for no reason. He missed a class, it's not like he killed someone and left town."

Figures.

Fucking sicko.
