Is that what I'm understanding here?

LOL-- come on.... It sounds like the same crowd who's against violent video games. oh my... Violent video games will turn us all into murderers... Oh my... Jack torturing some dude's gonna turn right thinking citizens into a bunch of freeper idiots who applaud torture.

It's funny but I use to think it was the repubs that wanted to take away shit that I love...

Not anymore.

4. the sheep in America are vulnerable
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 09:34 PM by AtomicKitten
At first I thought 24 was going to provide the scare tactics this administration love so much, but it is also hitting hard civil liberties.
I hope at the very least it is a wash because the sheep in America are vulnerable to such propaganda.

20. Did you watch last year?
The president on the show was behind a plot to set off WMDs in the US to start a war under false pretenses. Definitely sounds like pro-Bush propaganda to me....

22.  that was definitely a great story line last year
What I'm saying is that I was a bit tense when I realize this year was capitalizing on the fear factor but was assuaged somewhat to see them talking about the importance of civil liberties. It's hard to know for sure where they're going this year until it plays out.

26. They really are getting into the civil liberties thing ...
I wanted to smack Wayne Palmer when he basically sided with the "gestapo" against his sister. True, he had her released ... but he also reprimanded her for not giving them the "evidence" they wanted and he let the FBI hold the Muslim leader without cause. I wish the ghost of David Palmer would come back and kick his little brother's ass!

I agree. Unfortunately, the CONs do take it seriously.

I have not seen it but a friend of mine says, in his opinion, that it portrays a myth that we have been trying to debunk, that torture gets good, usable results and information.

His neoCON acquaintances have said such things as see, torture works and doesn't it feel good to watch the "good guys" kick ass.

Since they live in a fantasy world under Bush's tutelage, this show could be bad for their health, their mental health.

14. I dont know what is more foolish
People who think the show is real, or people who think it is so important.

Perfect illustration of the American brain pool.

"Some would if they could" give me a break. Your little program is a huge check in the bank for Fox Network, it aint going nowhere. Not as long as Jack Bauer's on the case!

It's a rightwing fantasy. So what? The key word here is FANTASY.

We all saw Lord of the Rings. Doesn't mean people turned into Orcs and roamed the countryside.

16. Very often, the RWers are not portrayed favorably on 24
That's why I don't understand why so many people think it's pure propaganda. 24's latest RW weasel, Tom Lennox, obviously has no respect for democracy, civil rights or the Constitution. The end justifies the means with this guy. He's already doing things behind the president's back and he's in favor of internment camps. How can any rational American think he's a hero? Sure, the RW viewers probably agree with him ... but I'm sure he'll get what's coming to him before the season's over.

25. Exactly.
24 has had two African-American presidents: both of them decent, honorable men. The worst and slimiest president resembled the Bush Administration. Women have held prominent roles in all areas of government and national security. In other words, it's a very forward-thinking piece of "propaganda". The terrorists (because it is, after all, a show about terrorism) have been from all different backgrounds.

Also, on no other show (except the West Wing) has their been such a discussion of the Constitution and civil rights. The secondary story this season is about detainees held illegally at a Gitmo type place.

Maybe it's the fact that it's about terrorism at all? Is this one of those things which some at DU have as deemed "unacceptable"? All shows which include terrorism in the plot are immediately tools of the administration? I don't understand the bru-ha-ha.

27. There's only been ONE positive role model for the Freepers
James Heller was portrayed positively and he was obviously a Republican. However, David Palmer, arguably the best character that's ever been on the show and the one portrayed the most positively, was a DEMOCRATIC president.

And how can we forget the REPUBLICAN president Charles Logan...portrayed more negatively than possibly anyone else on the show.

24 / 6 = 4
24 / 8 = 3
24 / 12 = 2
24 / 24 = 1

There are no prime thoughts in 24, its a rerun in consciousness.

13. Whoever hasn't watched 24 can't make judgment unless you see 24 for yourself
I am a huge fan of 24 and have been since it started. I don't understand all the fuss is about except for last night where arabic terrorists are bombing all over USA. 24 covers everything, all nationalities, both republican and democratic people...just a damn good show. That's all it is. I can almost understand why FREEPERS like Rush is sooooo excited about it ... it's because of that nuclear bomb going off last night on the show which would be a sign of Jebuz's Second Coming in their own fantasy. But wait and see how it turns out.

It is like those Freepers and some medias twisting words of Barbara Boxer and made it out that Barbara was calling Condi childless which she NEVER did.

29. People assume it's propaganda because it's on FOX
What they don't realize is if FOX let the news department control the entertainment department, they would go bankrupt. FOX airs shows like Family Guy and American Dad that are critical of the Bush administration because the shows have good ratings.

Just because Rush Limpballs thinks that it's just like real life doesn't mean that it is.

because we can imagine what Hitler could have done if he had the Fox channel behind him.

We ignored Rush when he came out because "just a couple of Freepers believe him", and look what happened. Now, there's no-where in America where I can get a traffic or weather report on AM radio without first having to listen to some ass-hat tell me what a "communist sympathizing, socialist, terrorist supporting, American hating scum-bag" I am, simply because I'm a Democrat...AND I'M ENTERING MY 24TH YEAR OF SERVICE TO MY COUNTRY AND NAVY.

Call this what it is. "Propaganda bordering on entertainment".

38. I have two major AM news stations in my area
Here's one line-up
0900-1200 Neal Boortz
1200-1500 Rush
1500-1800 Hannity
1800-2000 Savage

Here's the other
0900-1200 Tammy Bruce
1200-1400 O'Reily
1400-1500 Dr Laura
1500-1800 Glenn Beck
1800-2000 (Local talk)

I guess now that we control congress, and it's obvious that a majority of American supported the Democrats in this last election, any second now, we'll get some liberal talk on one of these stations.

I'm not holding my breath.
