and that's a very long shot since his 50 state strategy starting at the grass roots and working up worked so spectacularly in 2006.

He's too good where he is, reshaping the party away from the DLC model of whoring for corporate cash and to hell with the rank and file.

Many would not have supported him if they though he was going to use his chairmanship to promote his candidacy at the expense of electing Democrats.

We had a situation here a Florida recently where the state party chair used his position to further his candidacy rather build the party. Fortunately he is now gone, and the party is again growing.

I would say that for myself I haven't decided on '08. I like many of the potential candidates and the Dean supporters are not some kind of bloc voters who will endorse one candidate in masse--with the possible exception of Al Gore.

I guess what prompted my questions was recalling the grassroots nature of the campaign that was so remarkable.

I was curious where that energy was being directed now, really, and if any new candidate exhibited the same characteristics that Dean supporters found so attractive.

Gore would seem to fit the bill quite naturally.

He was my top choice in '04, and I was very disappointed when he didn't get the nom - but in one of those ironic twists of fate, it may be precisely because he didn't get the nom in '04, which allowed him to become chairman of the party, that we have a future to look forward to at all.

I like all the candidates who have been mentioned so far (Hillary too!), and would be delighted to vote for any one of them - but my absolute #1 top choice would be Al Gore.
