Anti-cancer chicken eggs produced
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/6261427.stm

<snip>
UK scientists have developed genetically modified chickens capable of laying eggs containing proteins needed to make cancer-fighting drugs.

The breakthrough has been announced by the same research centre that created the cloned sheep, Dolly.

The Roslin Institute, near Edinburgh, says it has produced five generations of birds that can produce useful levels of life-saving proteins in egg whites.

The work could lead to a range of drugs that are cheaper and easier to make.

1. This is why GMOs are not universally bad
This is such a simple way to improve people's lives.

5. anybody know about the long term side effects?
of course not.
Stop Fucking with the Food.
12 year old boys have boobs, girls get their "visitor" younger and younger every year, the same modifications that make the chickens fatten up faster are making us fatten up faster, antibiotics in the food mean that the bugs germs and flus are getting stronger too and will wipe us out one day- ever read S.King's The Stand?

I just want to eat a potato, not a super potato, not a potato that cures cancer or glows in the dark. I want to eat corn, ugly natural white-ish yellow corn that occurs naturally not some super sweet bright yellow bastardization of nature. So go on and mess it all up and then act surprised when people start catching new diseases that are resistent to all known antibiotics- oh wait we're already there.

At least I have my organic hippie beer.
God Bless Paul Newman and all other organic farmers.

7. you're painting with a broad brush
There are a lot of potential downsides and problems, but in all, there is great potential to things like this.

Many of the same things you've said have been said of things like vaccinations.
