Why have all the reports of military and Iraqi deaths stopped?
Have things gotten better all of a sudden? Just curious, the bombings and death was front page news two weeks ago. Now, nothing?

4. I was wondering the same thing
Today on CNN it was continuous coverage of the two boys covered in Missouri, but nothing of Iraq deaths. Another media cover up.

7. The two boys' abduction is used as an excuse to avoid reporting more serious issues like the war.
Edited on Sun Jan-14-07 12:18 AM by Selatius
The abduction of those two boys has no significance beyond the local or state news. It has no national level significance beyond sensationalism and ratings-getters for the corporate news networks. It is occupying time that could otherwise be diverted to covering the war.

6. I may be imagining things
...but, I'm pretty sure I hear a report about the violence in Iraq at least once an hour on CNN. Maybe I haven't been paying attention. At the moment CNN is playing Larry King, interviewing Gary Sinise. Sinise's politics run right and he has an agenda.

9. Here's another thread from this morning on the EXACT same thing.....
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=364&topic_id=3113364

I bookmarked it to see if anyone else would independently notice! And seems you win the cupie doll! It is very strange, blackout ..... like 'Iraq' was yesterdays war (remember Afghanistan?) .... I don't like it either, with all the Iran propaganda going on, it's eerie .... :scared: ;) ....

I'll give it another day or two and see if Iraq has gone down the memory hole........

16. boomboom meet BlackVelvet04 .....
some ESP thing you two got going .... ...... But seriously yea I'm taking note to how much less 'Iraq Violence' gets covered in the MSM from here on out. Didn't think to pay attention back when Saddam got lynched, but your probably correct in your assessment there too.

No more American (or other) deaths is a wonderful thing, of course. Good question you've raised.

15. So American deaths stopped the day of Bush**'s speech
It's a miracle! Hallelujah!

The truth: either they've pulled our forces back out of harm's way or they've stopped reporting, but whatever the case it's calculated to subdue critics of Bush**'s "plan" here at home.

11. Because the media is controlled by the controllers
They want to show that even knowing "The Surge" is coming is enough to make all violence stop because if you don't report it it didn't happen. On the other hand, I don't do much MSM, mostly Reuters, Guardian sorts.

Actually, I've noticed that the practice is to discuss the war as an academic exercise, with maps and pointers. It's all very abstract and confidence building like Robert E. Lee or Dwight Eisenhower is in charge. Usually there are frames in the background showing burning hummers, Bradleys, or Abrams tanks, you can hardly make them out. These are file video evidently. But its really just the lastest propaganda, because if you know anything about the military or warfare, they put no-one on, except those conforming to the latest military industrial bs. This includes people like BG Grange, who is probably the worst hack of all of them. Colonel Jacobs is another jerk. How about that USAF LTC (rick francona?)who had to be the guy helping Saddam kill millions of Iranians. Yeah, I'm gonna get my military guidance from these people. The sad thing is that all of these people know more than John McCain. Ironically, some of the politicians that don't have any formal military training, know exactly how hopeless this stupid war is.

But if you are persistent and watch the cable news all freakin day, which i've started doing now, (because I'm unemployed again) invariably with the volume turned off, you might catch the one a day memorial to the dead soldier of the day. Then I turn up the volume, today's victim was an army soldier, 20 years old. Why did I start watching again after shutting the news off for about three years? I want to see it on the streamer when the next big war starts, thats the only milestone we're gonna see in the middle east and its going to change life in north america in a tangible way that most people aren't ready for.

Do you remember how excited all these assholes were "when the statue of saddam came down?" How about Barry McCaffrey? Now this is someone who knows about killing people on a massive scale. He takes pride in his "expertise." Remember how he won the war on drugs? One day he says the Army is at the breaking point. The next day he says we be there another three to ten years. Thank you General, always a pleasure!

21. I heard the first female soldier from DE died yesterday on the news
I've heard news of at least one death since then, there might have been others to die with the woman, I can't remember.

(note: I mean I heard this news just a few hours ago when I say yesterday, since it's 1:00 AM as I post this)

25. There haven't been any really big incidents
Read the NY Times daily coverage, they always have a roundup of the small to middling violence. There haven't been any multiple car bombs with massive death tolls for a couple of weeks; probably the suicide bombers were taking the holiday off.

U.S. troop deaths have been somewhat lower the past couple of weeks. Possibly less aggressive patrolling while everyone waits to find out what the new plan is under the new bosses. Although, Abizaid's turnover isn't until the first of March; not sure when Casey gets replaced.

It's also cold and miserable here, and we've had a lot of rain. That probably has kept the bad guys inside planning instead of outside blowing things up.
