How are folks finding out about DU? The membership is climbing rapidly

We hit 100k just the other day. Now it's up 60+ over that. What's the biggest reason for the (here's that word again) surge?

People do searches and threads show up in the search. I have seen them. People start reading the posts and eventually sign up when they have something to say.

4. Since I'm new,

I'll tell you how I found DU. It was right after the election (woo, hoo!), the next evening actually, and I was looking for info about Claire McCaskill's stupendous victory since I'm in MO. Somehow I landed on DU, blind luck really, and I got caught up in all of the wonderful posts (bookmarked for posterity!) hootin' and hollerin' and it was just wonderful! So I lurked around for a couple of months, then finally signed on. I recommend it to everyone--even put in a plug in my annual Christmas letter! (Hmmm, maybe that's why there's been such an upswing!)

9. Deserting the other forums

Slate have a very good forum called the Frey. The republicans moved in and instead of posting informative messages, instead of a logical debate they started to rant and rave. They posted hate, and vile. Even after some were banned they found ways to get back on. They completely ruined the forum and you don't like to post. So a lot moved on.

My brother who used to post on AOL forums said the same thing happened. But AOL post your email address and he started to get hate mail on his computer. So he had to change ISP. The republicans want to shut down all the forums so you can get information. I guess that is the way this admiministration wants it. They can't control the internet, so now they want to make sure you don't have places to carry on conservations.

Our 6-year aniversary is this month I think, so 100,069members/(6years*365days/year)=45.7 members/day
So it doesn't appear there has been any particular change in the rate of new members joining, at least not from the average rate.
