Anyone seen this GAO report story?
I found this on a Google search, doing some fact-checking on Azzaman, an Arab paper that ran the story (unlike, say, the freakin' New York Times).

Appears that UPI and Bloomberg both covered the report, and pretty much nobody picked up either story. I guess the Washington-bureau prima donnas were too busy speculating about what Bush was GOING to say to cover something that had been scooped by wire services.

Short version: GAO finds the same thing the ISG did; the Army is getting worn out by excessive deployments to Iraq. Also, attacks are increasing proportional to the number of US combat troops deployed.

1. thanks - this am on npr - not a mention of the report.
no surprise that the badministration would ignore another comprehensive report - that might enlighten their decision making.

Stay safe.

2. Haven't seen the actual reports mentioned, but
just about all the military talking heads were mentioning this (worn out equipment and increase number of attacks) in yesterday's talk fest leading up to last night's speech.

The numbers I heard bounced around for re-equipping was anywhere from $40 Billion to $60 Billion needed ASAP. An increase in the number of attacks due to an increase presence was generally passed off as a "natural reaction" in the occupier vs occupied game.

So while the actual reports are not being mentioned, the gist of those reports is getting out back home via the MSM.
